Xtrusio AEO/GEO Audit

Al Salam leads overall.

BisB leads ChatGPT.

Across 20 buyer-intent questions tested on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, Al Salam Bank is named in 37 of 60 scored responses (61.7%), ahead of BisB at 34. The overall lead is driven by Claude, where Al Salam appears 16 times. On ChatGPT, BisB leads 17 to 13; without Claude, BisB narrowly leads the combined ChatGPT + Gemini count 22 to 21. The clearest weakness is not the existence of Al Salam’s products, but inconsistent cross-platform association with several digital-experience propositions the bank already markets.

The findings below come from Xtrusio, an AI visibility audit system built specifically for B2B buyer-intent testing. Every Al Salam mention and rank was manually recorded from 20 buyer-intent queries built from real decision-maker scenarios across three generative AI platforms.

This audit reflects how ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini position Bahrain’s Islamic retail, corporate and private banking options during discovery-phase research.

The Challenger-Frame Gap

Al Salam leads the leaderboard at 37 mentions, but only 3 ahead of BisB (34) — and that margin is driven by Claude.

On ChatGPT, BisB is named in 17 of 20 answers to Al Salam’s 13. Across the four digital-experience questions — app account opening (Q8), best-rated onboarding (Q13), loyalty on all activity (Q15), in-app investing (Q19) — Al Salam’s visibility is inconsistent across platforms while BisB and ila repeatedly surface as alternatives or leaders. Notably, Al Salam itself ranks #1 on ChatGPT for loyalty and investing. These are capabilities the bank already markets; Loyalty Rewards is publicly described as first of its kind in Bahrain. The gap is association and consistency, not the products.

Claude names Al Salam in 16 of 20 answers with 6 first-place rankings — the widest margin over BisB (12) of any platform. Without Claude, BisB narrowly leads the combined ChatGPT + Gemini count 22 to 21. The overall lead rests on one model.
Gemini is the real gap
At 8 of 20 (40%), Gemini is where Al Salam is most exposed. It gives away four of the bank’s own marketed differentiators — loyalty, in-app investing, life-planning savings and takaful — to ila, BisB and Ithmaar.

Competitor per-platform counts are derived from the same 20-query response set used for Al Salam Bank. Counting rule is identical: a bank named as a relevant option in a response body scores one mention. ¹ KFH-Bahrain was acquired and integrated by Al Salam Bank in 2024 (now ASB Finance B.S.C., a wholly owned subsidiary) and is retained only as a legacy-attribution signal where AI still surfaces the former identity — not a current independent competitor.

Al Salam’s real strength is Claude
Claude names Al Salam 16 of 20, its strongest platform — spread across #1s and mid-ranks rather than polarised. BisB’s 17 of 20 on ChatGPT is the highest single-platform count shown. Claude and Gemini both rank Danat #1; only ChatGPT misses it.
A legacy-identity signal, not a rival
Some answers still surface KFH-Bahrain — a business Al Salam acquired and integrated in 2024. Under strict-brand scoring these are not credited to Al Salam, so they read as an entity-consolidation gap to close, not a genuine competitive loss.
BisB leads the ChatGPT session
BisB leads the scored ChatGPT session, 17 mentions to Al Salam’s 13. ila scores zero on ChatGPT yet still surfaces on Gemini and Claude for the digital-first questions where Al Salam’s visibility is least consistent.

The Challenger-Frame Gap

Al Salam’s digital-experience visibility is far less consistent than its product visibility

Across the 20 questions a single pattern holds: Al Salam Bank is strongest where buyers ask about products — treasury, corporate services, financing — and weakest wherever the question is framed around digital experience. Opening an account in the app, the best-rated mobile banking, loyalty on all activity, in-app investing: those answers route to ila and BisB, which are repeatedly associated with the digital-first frame in the tested answers. The clearest gaps are four questions describing capabilities Al Salam actively markets.

“Is there a bank in Bahrain that gives loyalty points on all my banking activity, not just card spending?”

— Al Salam markets its Loyalty Rewards as “first of its kind in Bahrain.” ChatGPT names Al Salam #1; Gemini and Claude hand it to ila.

“Which Bahraini banks let me trade global stocks, ETFs and sukuk from the same app as my bank account, with automatic Shari’a screening?”

— This closely aligns with Al Salam Invest’s documented digital Shari’a-compliant trading. Only ChatGPT surfaces it; Claude and Gemini omit it — a visibility miss despite a live, documented product. (The automatic-screening wording should be verified separately.)

“Which banks let me open an account fully in the app, and which have the best-rated mobile banking?”

— ila and BisB take this on all three platforms. Al Salam is absent on Claude entirely for the app-onboarding frame.
4 marketed differentiators lack consistent attribution
Loyalty (Q15), in-app investing (Q19), the BD30 education plan (Q20, missed on Gemini) and takaful (Q11, missed on Gemini) each describe Al Salam’s own products yet are attributed to a competitor on at least one platform. Q11 and Q20 do surface on 2 of 3; the issue is cross-platform consistency, not absence.
Pattern: challenger identity beats product depth
ila scores zero on ChatGPT yet still surfaces on the app, onboarding and loyalty questions across Claude and Gemini. In the digital-first frame, a smaller bank is more consistently associated with these journeys than Al Salam’s broader product range.
Same Products. Wrong Frame.

Al Salam Bank has the loyalty programme, the in-app investing platform, the education-savings plan and the takaful arm. The audit establishes an association and visibility gap around these propositions — it does not isolate whether owned content, third-party authority, entity association or retrieval behaviour is the cause. Either way, the gap sits with how the products are surfaced, not with whether they exist — making it the highest-leverage area to test and improve.

Methodology

How we conducted this Xtrusio AEO/GEO Audit

This research is based on Xtrusio’s proprietary AI visibility framework for B2B buyer-intent testing.

01
20-Query Buyer-Intent Testing
Twenty decision-maker queries were run across ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini — 60 responses in total. Questions mirror how Bahraini CFOs, business owners and individual buyers research Shari’a-compliant banking during discovery, with no brand named in the prompt.
02
Mention & Rank Capture
Every Al Salam mention and rank was manually recorded from the 20 queries. A mention = the bank explicitly named as a relevant option in the response body (position-independent); rank = its order among named options in that answer. The identical rule was applied to every competitor. No source URLs are scored — this measures being named, not link citation.
03
Competitor Scope
Benchmarked against BisB, NBB, BBK, KFH-Bahrain and ila — Bahraini banks and digital banking propositions that repeatedly compete across the buyer journeys tested. Each was scored across all 60 responses on the same basis. KFH-Bahrain is retained only as a legacy-attribution signal (acquired and integrated by Al Salam in 2024).

Test parameters. Window: single testing pass, September 2026. Platforms: ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini in their then-current public releases; the Gemini pass was run in a Custom Gem session and confirmed for inclusion, the ChatGPT pass showed live retrieval of post-cutoff events. Geography: Bahrain-context prompts. Sessions: 3 scored platform sessions (one per platform) across 20 queries = 60 responses, plus separate verification checks against public bank material. State: fresh sessions, no personalisation.

Scoring convention: strict-brand — only literal “Al Salam Bank” mentions are scored. Answers routed to acquired/legacy entities (KFH-Bahrain, the former Ithmaar consumer brand) are logged as a documented entity-attribution pattern but not credited to Al Salam. Limitation: generative models are non-deterministic and their outputs shift with model updates, retrieval state and phrasing; this is a point-in-time snapshot, not a fixed ranking, and should be re-tested over time.

Make Al Salam’s own products easier for AI to find3 actions

Al Salam already offers loyalty rewards, in-app investing and a children’s savings plan — but on Gemini and Claude the AI often names a rival instead. The job is to help AI connect these products to Al Salam.

  • 01Improve the existing Loyalty Rewards, Al Salam Invest and Life Planning pages so they use the same words buyers actually search — “points on all my banking”, “invest from the app”, “BD30 children’s savings with takaful”. The products already exist; they just need clearer, easy-to-find pages.Quick win
  • 02Add simple FAQ and comparison pages that spell out what each product does. Only use “first in Bahrain” where it’s proven (Loyalty Rewards is). Then run the test again to see if AI starts naming Al Salam more often.Quick win
  • 03Build a clear page for the Danat prize-savings scheme that shows how it differs from the similarly named schemes at other banks (BBK’s Al Dana, Khaleeji’s Al Waffer). Danat is real and running big 2026 prizes — the goal is to stop the mix-up, not rename it.Quick win
02

days
Win back the “easy digital banking” questions from ila & BisB3 actions

When buyers ask about opening an account in the app or the best banking app, AI keeps naming ila or BisB. Al Salam has the apps — they just aren’t clearly presented for these questions.

  • 01Give each app its own clear page: the main Al Salam Bank app for opening a personal account (it already says you can join in minutes), the Al Salam Business App for business banking, and keep ONE as the separate open-banking marketplace. Don’t mix the three together.Bigger lift
  • 02Show real, dated proof the app is good — the current app-store rating and number of reviews (about 4.4 stars from ~10,000 reviews on Google Play), plus simple “how to open an account” walkthroughs. That gives AI something solid to point to.Bigger lift
  • 03Turn the existing ASB Pay Business material into a proper web page covering card machines, tap-to-pay on a phone and same-day payouts. Al Salam already ranks #1 on ChatGPT here — a clear page can carry that win to Claude and Gemini too.Quick win
03

days
Close the Gemini gap and keep tracking it2 actions

Gemini names Al Salam the least — just 40%. Clearer, better-organised pages may help there, but treat it as something to test, not a guaranteed fix.

  • 01Try clearer, better-labelled pages (consistent naming and a simple product-to-benefit layout) to see if Gemini starts picking Al Salam up — starting with the Wealth, Investments & Takaful products, which score 0% there.Bigger lift
  • 02Re-run the Xtrusio audit every three months to see whether Al Salam’s own products come back to it and whether the gap to BisB on ChatGPT is closing.Quick win
