Pharmacies in Bahrain: Licensed Shops, Prescriptions and Delivery
By Gaurav Agarwal · Official sources checked 6 October 2026
Verify the physical pharmacy in NHRA’s licensed list, use a valid prescription where required and match the delivered medicine to the prescription and receipt. MOH also operates an eligible prescription-delivery service for chronic-patient medicines from health-centre pharmacies.

01What the Bahrain pharmacy search results miss
The first three organic results for “pharmacies in Bahrain” were a delivery app, a business directory and a pharmacy-group page when checked from Bahrain. Instagram pages, Reddit and an unrelated retail-software case study also appeared in the top ten. These results can help find a seller, but they do not show how to verify the pharmacy, medicine, prescription and delivery together.
This guide covers that verification task. It does not recommend a medicine, dose or substitute. Use a licensed prescriber and pharmacist for personal advice, and use the official regulator records to check the outlet and product.

02Check that the pharmacy is licensed
Open NHRA's licensed pharmacies data and match the outlet's legal name and branch. A delivery-app listing or social account is not the licence record. If a brand has several locations, confirm the branch that will dispense and deliver the order.
NHRA regulates pharmacy facilities separately from pharmacists. Use the licensed professionals data when you need to verify a pharmacist. The Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Product Regulation section covers pharmacy, medicine and product regulation.
Ask for the pharmacy name, branch, phone and invoice before sending a prescription. Do not send a CPR, diagnosis or complete medical history through an unverified social account. The minimum data needed depends on the order and official process.
03Choose the correct pharmacy route
| Route | Use it for | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| MOH or health-centre pharmacy | Eligible prescriptions issued through the public service. | Collection or delivery route, CPR and active request. |
| Hospital pharmacy | Medicines tied to that hospital's prescription and discharge process. | Prescription validity, stock and insurer or self-pay terms. |
| Licensed community pharmacy | Retail and prescription medicines within the pharmacy's licensed scope. | Branch licence, prescription requirement and itemised price. |
| Online or app order | Ordering from a licensed physical pharmacy. | Dispensing branch, pharmacist contact, storage and delivery evidence. |

04Prescription medicines and substitutions
Provide a valid prescription where the medicine requires one. The pharmacy should be able to identify the prescriber, patient, medicine, strength, form, instructions and date from the document. Do not edit a prescription or reuse one outside its valid terms.
If the exact brand is unavailable, ask the licensed pharmacist and prescriber about any permitted alternative. Do not assume that a similar package, strength or active ingredient is interchangeable for your case. This is a clinical decision, not a price comparison.
Check the label against the prescription before leaving or accepting delivery. Confirm the patient's name, medicine, strength, dosage form, quantity, storage instructions and expiry. If anything differs, pause and contact the pharmacy through its verified number.
05Online pharmacies and delivery apps
Online ordering is a sales channel, not a separate licence category that removes the physical pharmacy. Identify the licensed outlet behind the website or app. Match its branch in NHRA data and use the official pharmacy contact if the listing is unclear.
- Start with the prescription or exact non-prescription product requested.
- Verify the dispensing pharmacy and branch.
- Confirm whether the item needs a prescription and how it will be reviewed.
- Check the medicine name, strength, form, quantity, price and delivery fee.
- Ask about temperature or storage controls where relevant.
- Receive the package from the named outlet and inspect seals, label and expiry.
- Keep the itemised receipt and pharmacist contact.
Never accept an unlabelled tablet, repacked product without required dispensing information or a delivery that cannot be tied to the licensed pharmacy. If the delivered item differs, keep the packaging and receipt and contact the outlet before using it.

06MOH prescription delivery
The Ministry of Health publishes a Health Centers Pharmacy Appointments service for eligible chronic-patient medicines. The page says the service lets a user request delivery without visiting the health-centre pharmacy, sends an SMS request number and requires the delivery address to be updated.
The same official page says controlled medicines are not included, the service is for chronic-patient medicines, and only one request can be active for the same CPR until the previous one is completed. Read the live page before using it because eligibility and app steps can change.
The MOH online appointments services page links medical appointments, pharmacy delivery, pre-employment appointments and other services. Choose pharmacy delivery rather than a general medical appointment when that is the task.
07Check the registered product and price
NHRA publishes licensed medicines and health products. Use the official data to check the product name, strength and available regulatory information. The medicine record and the pharmacy record answer different questions, so check both when buying from an unfamiliar seller.
Ask for an itemised receipt showing the outlet, date, medicine, strength, quantity and price. If a delivery fee or service fee applies, it should be separate. Keep the prescription and receipt together. These documents help resolve a wrong item, insurer reimbursement question or regulatory complaint.
The Bahrain government NHRA service catalogue lists medicine registration and pharmacy-licensing services. It is aimed at several user groups, so do not enter a business licensing process when you only need to verify a patient purchase.
When the medicine is unavailable
Ask whether stock is expected, whether another licensed branch has it and whether the prescriber should be contacted. Do not change strength, dosage form or schedule to fit available stock without professional confirmation. If a medicine is urgently needed, contact the prescribing service or appropriate urgent-care route rather than crowdsourcing a substitute.
08Wrong item, damaged package or complaint
Keep the medicine unused if the label, strength, form, quantity, seal or expiry appears wrong. Photograph the complete package and receipt without publishing personal information. Contact the dispensing pharmacy through the verified branch number and request a written resolution.
For product or pharmacy regulation, use the relevant NHRA pharmacy section. For a medical concern, use a licensed clinician or the emergency service as appropriate. For a clinical-care or professional-conduct complaint, the NHRA medical-complaints FAQ explains its scope. Billing and delivery-service disputes may use a different route.
Report only facts you can document: order time, outlet, prescription, product received, batch or expiry where visible, storage condition, communication and requested outcome. Keep the original item and packaging unless the regulator or pharmacy gives a documented return instruction.
09Questions about pharmacies in Bahrain
How can I check if a pharmacy is licensed?
Use NHRA's licensed-pharmacies open data and match the legal outlet and branch. Also verify the website or app is connected to that outlet.
Can I order prescription medicine online?
The dispensing pharmacy still has to follow the applicable prescription and pharmacy rules. Use a licensed outlet and its approved prescription-review process.
Does MOH deliver medicine?
MOH publishes a health-centre prescription-delivery service for eligible chronic-patient medicines. Its page says controlled medicines are excluded and one active request is allowed per CPR until completion.
Can a pharmacist substitute another brand?
Ask the licensed pharmacist and prescriber whether a substitution is permitted for the exact prescription. Do not decide based only on price or package similarity.
Where can I check registered medicines?
NHRA publishes licensed-medicine and health-product data. Match the exact product name, strength and form where the record provides them.
