Xtrusio AEO/GEO Audit

Zain Bahrain appears in 29 of 60 enterprise-AI answers.

It reaches #1 on just one of the 20 query topics.

Across 20 buyer-intent questions tested on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, Zain Bahrain is named in 29 of 60 scored responses (48.3%) — 11 on Claude, 10 on ChatGPT and 8 on Gemini. Its only #1 topic is satellite enterprise internet, where both ChatGPT and Claude rank Zain first. The larger gap is concentrated in several higher-value enterprise propositions such as managed security and UCaaS. Other zero-mention questions require more careful interpretation, because some map primarily to ZainTECH or use criteria that structurally exclude Zain Bahrain. The audit therefore establishes a cross-platform brand-association gap, not a single underlying retrieval cause.

The findings below come from Xtrusio, an AI visibility audit system built specifically for B2B buyer-intent testing. Every Zain Bahrain mention and rank was manually recorded from 20 buyer-intent queries built from real decision-maker scenarios across three generative AI platforms.

This audit reflects how ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini position Zain Bahrain’s enterprise ICT — connectivity, security, cloud and satellite — during discovery-phase research by Bahrain IT and technology decision-makers.

The Value-Tier Ceiling

On enterprise questions, Zain is named where the topic is connectivity and thins out as it moves up the stack.

Zain reaches #1 on a single query topic — satellite enterprise internet. Several higher-value product-specific questions, especially managed security, cloud migration and UCaaS, produce no Zain Bahrain mention across the tested platforms, while a few other zero-mention questions map primarily to ZainTECH or use criteria that structurally exclude Zain Bahrain. This audit establishes a cross-platform brand-association gap; because source URLs were not captured, it does not determine whether the cause is retrieval, entity association, source authority or another factor.

Shown at group-family level for symmetry, because operators appeared under several brands (Batelco / Beyon / Beyon Cyber; Zain Bahrain / ZainTECH). Zain Bahrain alone is named on 29 of 60 (48.3%) — the strict-brand figure used throughout this report — and ZainTECH adds 5, all on ChatGPT. Competitor totals are confirmed mentions within the tracked set, not an exhaustive census and not a complete market ranking. Cross-platform percentages are directional rather than a controlled model benchmark, because exact model versions and retrieval/search states were not separately recorded (see Methodology).

Claude is the widest surface, not the strongest
Claude gives Zain its widest visibility at 11 of 20, but its average placement is roughly #3.3 — the highest (weakest) of the three sessions. Outside the satellite win, Zain is mostly mid-pack: present in the list, rarely the pick.
Gemini is the weakest scored environment
At 8 of 20 with no first places, Gemini names Zain least and drops it from the satellite question. These results are directional and not strictly like-for-like, because the scored Gemini run used a Custom Gem rather than a standard session (see Methodology).

Group-Family View — the entity split is itself a finding
Counted at group-family level, Zain (Zain Bahrain 29 + ZainTECH 5) = 34 of 60 (57%) versus Beyon (Batelco + Beyon Cyber) = 42 (70%) and stc 40 (67%). The gap narrows once Zain’s own ICT sibling is counted — which is the point: Zain’s enterprise value is split across two brands that AI does not always connect. Entities are scored strictly by the name that appears; Batelco / Beyon is a group-level count as it appeared.

Counting rule: each brand scores one mention every time it is explicitly named. Zain Bahrain and ZainTECH are scored separately; Batelco / Beyon is counted at the group level as it appeared. Competitor totals are confirmed mentions within this tracked set, not an exhaustive census, and should not be read as a complete market ranking. Kalaam and NGN were absent from the scored Custom Gem Gemini session — those zeroes should not be interpreted as market-wide Gemini visibility.

Real presence in the tracked set
Zain Bahrain records 29 confirmed mentions across 60 responses — ahead of Kalaam (23) and NGN (11) based on the minimum confirmed competitor counts shown. It is named across many lanes; the issue is rank and product association, not absence.
The cross-platform gap
Claude 55% → ChatGPT 50% → Gemini 40% is a consistent decline in how often Zain is named, and Zain never finishes first except on the satellite topic. The Gemini figure is directional (Custom Gem, not a standard session). The audit records the gap but, without source scoring, does not identify its cause.

The Higher-Value Product Association Gap

The product-specific questions where Zain Bahrain isn’t named — and what each one actually means

Zain’s mentions concentrate in connectivity. Several higher-value product-specific questions — especially managed security, cloud migration and UCaaS — produce no Zain Bahrain mention across the tested platforms. But the zero-mention questions are not all the same, and shouldn’t be read as one blanket product blackout. Three of the clearest direct cases first:

“We don’t have an in-house security team. Which managed security service providers in Bahrain offer 24/7 threat monitoring?”

— Query 9, Managed Security. All three platforms name Beyon Cyber and NGN. Zain is named on 0 of 3 — despite marketing Managed Security Services and being recognised in its 2025 annual report as Bahrain’s first Fortinet MSSP and integrator specialising in SD-WAN and SecOps. A direct, recoverable visibility gap.

“Who offers a cloud-based unified communications (UCaaS) platform for businesses in Bahrain?”

— Query 13, UCaaS. Kalaam and stc take the answer. Zain markets a dedicated fully-managed UCaaS product, but is named on 0 of 3. A direct, recoverable gap.

“We’re planning to move our workloads to Microsoft Azure or AWS. Which partners in Bahrain can manage a cloud migration for us?”

— Query 10, Cloud Migration. ChatGPT and Claude route to stc and GBM. Zain Bahrain markets Cloud Services through strategic partnerships with Microsoft Azure and AWS, and broader migration expertise also sits across ZainTECH. Named on 0 of 3 — a related capability / entity gap.

Not all zeros are equal

The seven zero-mention questions, classified by what each really represents

#QuestionWhat it actually is
Q924/7 managed securityDirect Zain Bahrain visibility gap — recoverable
Q13Cloud UCaaS phone systemDirect Zain Bahrain visibility gap — recoverable
Q10Azure / AWS cloud migrationRelated capability / entity gap
Q17International low-latency linksRelated visibility gap — Global Connectivity exists; exact Europe/Asia low-latency claim needs proof
Q4Enterprise drones & roboticsZainTECH entity-attribution gap, not a clean Zain Bahrain product absence
Q15Security compliance consultingZainTECH / group-level entity gap unless a direct Zain Bahrain page is verified
Q19Independent SD-WAN / SASEStructural mismatch — the prompt asks for an independent provider; Zain is an operator
The recoverable core: security, cloud, UCaaS
Q9 managed security, Q13 UCaaS and Q10 cloud are live Zain Bahrain propositions that AI is not associating with the brand — the highest-leverage, directly fixable gaps.
Interpret with care: drones, compliance, “independent”
Q4 drones and Q15 compliance map primarily to ZainTECH (an entity-attribution gap), and Q19 explicitly asks for an independent provider — a category boundary, not a recoverable Zain miss.
Same Portfolio. One Missing Frame.

Zain has the managed security (Bahrain’s first Fortinet MSSP), the cloud practice and the UCaaS product. On several of these, a buyer researching today is shown competitors, not Zain. The directly recoverable gaps are managed security, UCaaS and cloud; the drone and compliance questions are ZainTECH / group attribution; and the “independent provider” question is a category boundary. This establishes a brand-association gap — not whether the products exist, and not which source pages were retrieved.

▹ Satellite is Zain’s clearest observed leadership lane in this audit — Zain Bahrain is the first operator in Bahrain to offer Starlink Enterprise Services as an authorized reseller. Managed Cybersecurity shows 0% across all three platforms, but that cluster mixes one direct gap, one query that maps to ZainTECH and one structurally-worded query — so not all of it is a directly recoverable Zain Bahrain miss.

Methodology

How we conducted this Xtrusio AEO/GEO Audit

This research is based on Xtrusio’s proprietary AI visibility framework for B2B buyer-intent testing.

01
20-Query Buyer-Intent Testing
Twenty discovery-phase questions were run across ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini — 60 responses in total. Questions mirror how Bahrain IT and technology leaders research connectivity, security, cloud and satellite, with no brand named in the prompt.
02
Mention & Rank Capture
Every Zain Bahrain mention and rank was manually recorded from the 20 queries. A mention = Zain explicitly named as a relevant option; rank = its order among named options. The same rule was applied to every competitor. Zain’s count is exhaustive across the 20×3 matrix; competitor counts are minimum confirmed figures within the tracked set. No source URLs were captured or scored, so this audit measures whether a brand is named — not which pages were retrieved — and does not establish why platforms differ.
03
Competitor & Entity Scope
Benchmarked against Batelco (Beyon), stc Bahrain and Kalaam Telecom, with NGN and Beyon Cyber tracked where named. Competitor mentions were recorded where a brand was explicitly named — confirmed counts within the tracked set, not an exhaustive census and not a complete market ranking. Zain Bahrain and its Zain Group ICT sibling ZainTECH are scored separately, and Batelco / Beyon is a group-level count as it appeared, so a group-family view is provided for symmetry.
