Practical guide
How do you get a municipality certificate in Bahrain?
By Gaurav Agarwal · Updated 21 October 2026
Apply online for Bahrain's Address Proof Certificate through the Ministry's Launch Service. Bahrain.bh lists a BHD 5 fee and three working days. Checked on this article's updated date; the Ministry page lists Last Update: 2026-10-19. Citizens, GCC citizens, residents and visitors are listed as beneficiaries.

01Choose the address document that matches your task
Several Bahrain services have similar names, but they solve different problems. Use the table before opening an application. The Address Proof Certificate is the route for official proof of your place of residence. A residential address statement, a tenant address certificate and a building address certificate have narrower purposes.
If an employer, bank, school or other authority asked for proof of where you currently live, start with the Address Proof Certificate page. The service is available to citizens, GCC citizens, residents and visitors. If you are changing the address connected to an identity card, printing a statement after an address update, or proving a building's assigned address, check the other rows first.
The Ministry also publishes a separate certificate fee table. It lists an Address Confirm Certificate at BHD 2, a Residential Certificate at BHD 2 and an Address Certificate For CPR at BHD 5. Bahrain.bh separately publishes a BHD 5 fee for the Address Proof Certificate. The pages we captured do not say that the tenant Address Certificate and the fee-table line named Address Certificate For CPR are the same service, so use the exact service named in the request you received.
| Your task | Official service | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Prove your current residence to an authority | Address Proof Certificate | Verifies the applicant's place of residence. |
| Update your residential address, then print its statement | Update Residential Address, then Print Residential Address Statement | The print page says it is for a request first submitted through Update Residential Address. |
| Issue an ID card or change a residence address when rent includes utilities and municipality fees | Address Certificate | The tenant route lists BHD 5, 2 working days, and 7% of lease value if furnished or 10% if unfurnished. |
| Prove an address already assigned to a building | Existing Building Address Certificate | iGA describes it as printing an existing building's address certificate. |
| Modify an existing building's registered address | Address Modification Certificate for an Existing Building | iGA lists a BHD 1 fee and same-day or next-day preparation after requirements are met. |
| Register the address of a building constructed on vacant land | New Building Address Certificate | iGA describes it as a certificate for a new building on previously undeveloped land. |
| Confirm, residential or CPR certificate named in a request | Certificate fee-table routes | The Ministry table lists Address Confirm Certificate at BHD 2, Residential Certificate at BHD 2 and Address Certificate For CPR at BHD 5. |
| Add a new address, replace an address record or change the nature of use | Issuing an address card/Replacing a lost one/Update address | This is a separate municipal eService with its own application route. |
02Check eligibility and the lease conditions
The Ministry lists four beneficiary groups: citizen, GCC citizen, resident and visitor. The category alone does not replace the document checks. Your application depends on a lease that meets the two published conditions and on the required supporting files.
First, the attached lease must be registered in the Contract Registration System on Bahrain.bh. Keep the registration evidence because the national portal lists proof of registration as a mandatory attachment. A signed lease without that evidence does not satisfy the published attachment list.
Second, the lease must be written in Arabic. If it is in another language, the official page requires a certified translation from a licensed translation office, stamped with the office seal. Prepare the Arabic lease or certified translation before you begin so the application is not left waiting for a replacement file.
The pages we captured do not say that the applicant must own the home. The Bahrain.bh attachment list instead centres on the lease, its registration and the owner's identity. Follow the fields shown in the live service for your category and do not substitute a different address service because its name sounds similar.
03Prepare the mandatory files before you log in
The official attachment list has three mandatory items: the lease agreement, evidence that the lease is registered in the government system and both sides of the owner's ID. Put each item in a clearly named file so it is easy to select on a phone.
A property picture is optional, and the service also provides an optional category for other supporting files. Optional does not mean that every applicant needs to upload one. Use those fields only when the file helps explain your residence or the authority asks for it.
Check that the names and address details agree across the lease, registration evidence and owner ID. This is a practical file check, not an extra eligibility rule. Keep the original files private and upload them only through the official service you opened from the Ministry or Bahrain.bh page.
| File | Official status | Phone check |
|---|---|---|
| Lease agreement | Mandatory | Arabic, or accompanied by the required certified translation. |
| Proof of lease registration | Mandatory | Confirm it relates to the same lease. |
| Owner ID, both sides | Mandatory | Make both sides clear and readable. |
| Property picture | Optional | Add only when useful for the request. |
| Other supporting file | Optional | Use the category only for a relevant document. |
04Follow the official online steps
Open the Ministry page and select Launch Service. The published route then begins with an eKey login. A person without an account can create a new user and then log in. After login, submit the application and wait for review by the competent authority. The authority then authenticates the application before the payment and acknowledgment stage.
The Ministry page identifies the Launch Service route and process. The fee, documents and conditions in this guide come from the Bahrain.bh service record for Address Proof Certificate, psID 2428.
The fee is BHD 5. The portal lists debit card, credit card and Sadad as payment methods. The published eService processing time is three working days. Treat that as the listed service time and keep your application acknowledgment for follow-up.
Do not pay through a link sent by an unknown person. Start from the official Ministry page, use its service launch route and check the web address before entering identity or payment details. Save the acknowledgment after payment because it is the final step named in the published process.
- Open the official Address Proof Certificate page and choose its service launch route.
- Log in with eKey, or create a new user and then log in.
- Submit the application with the mandatory lease, registration evidence and owner ID files.
- Wait for review and authentication by the competent authority.
- Pay the BHD 5 fee by debit card, credit card or Sadad.
- Save the acknowledgment for your records.
05Do not confuse proof of residence with building or ID address services
For the statement route, first submit Update Residential Address, then use Print Residential Address Statement. The print page explicitly ties the statement to an online Update Residential Address request. This is separate from the general proof-of-residence route.
The separate Address Certificate is for a tenant who needs to issue an identity card or change a residence address when rent includes water, electricity and municipality fees. It lists BHD 5, 2 working days, and a charge equal to 7% of the lease value for a furnished property or 10% for an unfurnished property. Its attachments include the utilities clause, an owner letter, passport copy and ID card. The pages we captured do not establish that this is the same service as the fee-table line named Address Certificate For CPR.
An Existing Building Address Certificate verifies the assigned address of an existing building. A New Building Address Certificate concerns a new building constructed on previously vacant land. iGA also lists an Address Modification Certificate for an Existing Building at BHD 1, with same-day or next-day certificate preparation after requirements are met. These building services focus on property records, while the Address Proof Certificate verifies where the applicant lives.
Use the wording in the request you received. If it asks for proof of residence, choose Address Proof Certificate. If it asks for a residential statement, an identity card address change or a building address certificate, use the corresponding official row in the chooser.
06Run this check before you submit
A short preflight check prevents most service mix-ups. Complete it before logging in, especially if your lease or translation is stored on another device.
The Ministry page lists contact@mun.gov.bh and 17989898. Use those published details for a service question. Do not send identity files in an ordinary email unless the Ministry specifically instructs you to use that channel.
- Confirm that you need proof of residence, not an address statement or building certificate.
- Check that your beneficiary group is listed.
- Confirm the lease is registered in the Contract Registration System.
- Use an Arabic lease or the required certified translation.
- Prepare the lease, registration evidence and both sides of the owner's ID.
- Keep BHD 5 available through debit card, credit card or Sadad.
- Allow for the published processing time of three working days.
- Save the final acknowledgment.
07What the captured official pages show
Imapro is an independent guide. Apply and pay only through the linked Bahrain government pages, and treat the live service as final if its fields change.
The Bahrain.bh service record supplies the conditions, documents, fee and processing time used in this guide. The Ministry page supplies the service purpose, beneficiary groups, Launch Service route and process. The pages we captured do not promise that every application will be accepted within the listed time.
The captured Bahrain.bh attachment list marks the property picture and other files as optional. It does not explain when either optional field becomes useful. Add a relevant file only when the application or authority asks for it.
The Ministry publishes contact@mun.gov.bh and 17989898. Describe the service name and application reference, but protect personal documents unless the official team directs you to a secure channel.
