Practical guide
How do you register a trademark in Bahrain?
By Gaurav Agarwal · Updated 17 October 2026
Apply through the MOIC Industrial Property e-Services portal. The official filing service covers one class, costs BHD 100 and lists 10 working days as its process time. Non-resident foreign applicants must file through an authorised IP agent or law firm.
01First choose the correct applicant route
A Bahrain national or resident can submit to the Trademark Office. A foreign applicant who is not resident in Bahrain must use an IP registration agent or law firm authorised by the Industrial Property Directorate.
The BHD 100 service is for filing a mark in one class of the Nice Classification. If your goods or services fall into more than one class, do not treat one filing as covering every class.
| Your situation | Route |
|---|---|
| Bahrain national or resident | Apply through MOIC e-Services |
| Foreign applicant not resident in Bahrain | Use an authorised IP agent or law firm |
| One mark in one class | Use the national mark registration service |
| Need to check existing marks | Use WIPO Publish search |
02Search and define the mark before you apply
A trademark distinguishes one establishment's goods, products or services from those of another. The official examples include words, logos, pictures and combinations of them.
Use the WIPO Publish search linked by MOIC to look for trademarks and industrial designs registered in Bahrain. A search helps you prepare, but it is not the registration decision.
- Write the exact owner name that will appear on the application.
- Choose the goods or services and the relevant class.
- Search the proposed wording and close visual variants in WIPO Publish.
- Prepare a clear copy or description of the mark.
- Choose the direct or authorised-agent route before uploading documents.
03Prepare the required documents
For a visual mark, the official service requires a figurative copy at least 10 by 10 cm. A Bahraini establishment or company provides its Bahrain Commercial Registration copy. A natural-person applicant provides identity proof such as a smart card or passport.
A non-resident company provides an official certificate from its country of origin showing its activity, certified and translated into Arabic. When an agent files, the authenticated power of attorney must also be translated into Arabic.
| Item | When needed |
|---|---|
| Mark copy at least 10 by 10 cm | Visual mark |
| Bahrain CR copy | Bahraini establishment or company |
| Identity proof | Natural person |
| Certified activity certificate translated into Arabic | Non-resident company |
| Authenticated power of attorney translated into Arabic | Agent or legal representative |
| Certified Arabic translation of foreign words | Mark contains foreign-language words |
04Extra files for sound and scent marks
For a sound mark, the service asks for written musical notation, a written description and an MP3 recording. For a scent mark, it asks for a written description of the smell.
Match the uploaded material to the mark type selected in the portal. Do not substitute a general company document for the required mark representation.
| Mark type | Official requirement |
|---|---|
| Sound | Notation, written description and MP3 recording |
| Scent | Written description of the smell |
05Submit the application online
In the MOIC portal, open Trademark Services, choose Application for registration of national mark, select the mark type, read the instructions and start. Enter the mark data and use Save and Continue.
The portal then takes you to preview and payment. At the end, it provides an application receipt with the application reference number. Save that receipt before closing the page.
- Sign in to the Industrial Property e-Services portal.
- Open Trademark Services.
- Choose Application for registration of national mark.
- Select the mark type and start the form.
- Enter the mark and owner data, then select Save and Continue.
- Review the preview and pay the filing fee.
- Save the receipt and application reference number.
06Understand the BHD 100 fee and 10 day timing
The National Portal states a BHD 100 filing fee for the application service and a process time of 10 working days. The service sequence is submission, document review, a decision and notification of the result.
The BHD 100 figure is the filing fee shown for this one-class service. The checked service page does not state one all-inclusive total through every later registration stage, so budget separately for any later official payment shown in your application workflow and any agent fee.
| Item | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Filing fee | BHD 100 |
| Class scope | One class |
| Process time | 10 working days |
| Outcome sequence | Review, decision and notification |
07Track the result and keep the registration current
Keep the reference number from the receipt because it identifies the submitted application. The office reviews the documents, makes a decision and informs the applicant of the result.
A registered Bahrain trademark is protected for 10 years from the application date. A renewal application can be filed during the last year of each protection period. Record that date in your business compliance calendar.
- Store the receipt and reference number.
- Monitor the portal and the contact details used in the filing.
- Respond only through official MOIC channels when further action is requested.
- Record the application date and future renewal window.
08Use the official support contact
For difficulty submitting the application online, MOIC lists [email protected]. State the application reference number when you already have one, but never email an eKey password or payment credential.
The Trademarks Office also publishes its office contact details on the MOIC trademarks page. Use the online support address for filing-system problems and your authorised agent for representation questions.
09What the official pages don't say
The filing service publishes BHD 100 for the application and 10 working days for this service. It does not present that figure as the total cost through every later registration stage. Check the payment screen and current official fee material before each payment.
