Business Insurance in Bahrain: Match Cover to Business Risks
By Gaurav Agarwal · Sources checked 6 October 2026
There is no single policy called “business insurance” that solves every Bahrain business risk. Provider pages from GIG Gulf Bahrain, Solidarity Bahrain and New India Assurance Bahrain show separate property, liability, employee, interruption, professional and transit covers. Build a risk brief first, then compare the same limits and extensions.

01Map what the business owns and could lose
| Risk | Common cover to ask about | Evidence to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Premises and equipment | Property damage and machinery breakdown | Asset list, values, lease and protections |
| Stock and goods | Stock, deterioration and goods in transit | Maximum values, locations and routes |
| Lost income | Business interruption | Accounts, gross profit basis and recovery period |
| Injury or property damage to others | Public and product liability | Activities, footfall, products and contracts |
| Professional advice or service | Professional indemnity | Service description, revenue and contracts |
| Employees | Employer liability, work injury and benefits | Headcount, payroll, occupations and locations |
| Data and systems | Cyber and crime cover | Data types, controls, vendors and incident history |
The GIG Business Secure page lists combinations for service, retail and industrial businesses. It also says options vary by activity, which is why a generic package name is not enough.
02Compare the complete insurance programme
The Solidarity business page separates property, engineering, general accident, liability, marine, medical and life products. The New India Bahrain product list also separates property, construction, liability, marine and personal accident classes. Use these categories to test for gaps and overlap.
For every section, compare the insured entity, activity, premises, territory, limit, sublimit, deductible, valuation basis, exclusions and required safeguards. For interruption cover, ask what insured property damage must occur, how gross profit is calculated and how long the indemnity period lasts.

03Prepare a quotation pack that insurers can compare
- Commercial registration name and every entity to be insured.
- Full business activities, premises and territories.
- Asset, stock and equipment values by location.
- Latest accounts and the requested interruption period.
- Employee numbers, payroll and occupational split.
- Products, services, contracts and major customer exposures.
- Safety, security, fire protection and business-continuity controls.
- Claims and incidents for the requested period.
- Current policies, limits, deductibles and renewal date.
Verify each insurer or broker in the CBB Licensing Directory. Ask the intermediary to identify the insurer for each section and provide the quotation, schedule, wording and endorsements.
Record every material assumption in the quotation. Check whether values include fit-out, tenant improvements, seasonal stock peaks, leased equipment and property temporarily away from the premises. A missing location or activity can create a serious gap.
04Design the claim process before a loss
Assign one person to keep policies, contacts and incident records. After a loss, protect people, contact emergency services where required, prevent further damage when safe and notify the insurer promptly. Preserve CCTV, photographs, damaged property, invoices, contracts and the event timeline.
Do not admit liability or settle a third-party demand without checking the policy. For interruption claims, preserve sales, purchase, payroll and extra-expense records. The insurer will specify the documents and any surveyor or loss adjuster.
If a claim decision is disputed, request the written reason and clause. The CBB insurance complaint procedure directs customers to complain to the insurer first and then escalate an unsatisfactory response through the CBB route.
05Business insurance questions
Is one business package enough?
Only if its active sections, limits and exclusions match the business. Review the schedule, not the product name.
How should a startup estimate values?
Use purchase records, replacement estimates, the lease, forecast stock and documented financial assumptions. Update them as the business grows.
Does property insurance replace business interruption cover?
No. Property cover addresses insured physical loss. Interruption cover has a separate income-loss basis, trigger and time period.
Should a home-based business rely on home insurance?
Do not assume it can. Disclose the business activity and ask both insurers how business equipment, stock, visitors and liability are treated.
