Medical Certificates in Bahrain: Types, Verification and Corrections
By Gaurav Agarwal · Official sources checked 6 October 2026
First identify whether the recipient needs sick leave, a medical report, a fitness certificate or a test result. Use the authorised issuer, check every identity and date field, then use the official verification or correction route.

01Why medical-certificate results are confusing
The first page for “medical certificate Bahrain” was poorly matched when checked from Bahrain. It mixed certificate courses, accreditation pages and unrelated services. A resident needs to identify the receiving body's purpose before choosing a doctor, test or online service.
“Medical certificate” can mean sick leave, a medical report, a fitness certificate, a test result or an employer form. These are not interchangeable. This guide maps the records and links to the existing Imapro pages for the detailed sick-leave and expatriate-fitness processes.

02Choose the document by purpose
| Document | What it records | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Medical leave certificate | Certified absence connected to a clinical visit | Requesting it after the fact without attending |
| Medical report | Factual clinical information for a stated purpose | Assuming a test result is a complete report |
| Fitness certificate | Decision under an authorised work, study, sport or residency process | Using an ordinary clinic certificate for a regulated route |
| Test result | Outcome of a specific laboratory or imaging test | Treating the result as a fitness decision |
| Employer or insurer form | Information requested in that body's format | Omitting authorisation, code or supporting records |
Ask the recipient for the exact document name, accepted issuer, language, format, issue-date limit and verification requirement. If the request is for residency or work-permit medical fitness, use the authorised government route and not a general consultation.
03Medical leave certificates
The MOH Medical Certificate e-Service lets citizens and residents view and print medical certificates issued by Ministry of Health institutions. The separate official verification service lets an employer or institution check the authenticity of a medical leave certificate issued by the MOH Health Centers Directorate.
NHRA's professional conduct code says a practitioner should issue sick leave only when required by the patient's condition, should not issue it retrospectively and should not write it for a patient who did not attend the healthcare facility. The regulator's medical-information and records policy says the leave begins on the consultation date and requires the treating physician's signature and facility stamp.
Use the Bahrain sick-leave guide for the employment and approval workflow. This page remains focused on identifying and checking the certificate itself.
04Medical reports
A medical report is not automatically a sick-leave certificate. NHRA's conduct code says the patient has a right to obtain a medical report, that reports to relatives or other parties require written patient consent unless an official authority applies, and that the report should contain medical facts. The code states that consultants and specialists may write medical reports.
The current MOH medical-report price sheet publishes BD 10 for the listed “Medical Reports” service. It is a specific MOH fee document, not a universal private-sector price. Confirm eligibility, report type, author, language, processing time and any separate record-copy charge before paying.
A useful request states why the report is needed and what period, visit, diagnosis, test or functional statement the recipient expects. The clinician decides what can properly be stated. Ask how the report will be delivered and how identity or date mistakes can be corrected.
05Fitness and residency certificates
Pre-employment, domestic-worker, school, university, sport and residency fitness processes can have different authorised routes. MOH's ordinary health-centre appointment page explicitly excludes several fitness examinations from its general-practice booking flow. The appointments services page lists a separate route for pre-employment expatriate health checks.
Use the expatriate medical-result guide for LMRA and residency result checks. Do not book an ordinary clinic merely because it offers a general “medical certificate.” Match the visa, employer or authority instruction to the appointed provider and system.
A fitness decision may depend on a defined examination and authority workflow. A laboratory result is supporting evidence, not necessarily the final certificate. Keep the appointment reference and application identifiers together.

06Check every detail before submission
NHRA's documentation policy requires medical records to be accurate, complete, direct and truthful. Its records policy says prescriptions and records should identify the patient, date, facility and treating professional. A certificate should be checked with the same discipline before it reaches an employer or government authority.
- Patient name matches the CPR or passport used for the process.
- CPR or other identifier is correct and complete.
- Visit date, issue date and covered dates are clear.
- Certificate type matches the stated purpose.
- Issuer, professional, facility, signature and stamp are identifiable where required.
- Any verification number, QR code or online reference is legible.
- The recipient's language and format requirements are satisfied.
Do not alter a certificate yourself. An apparently small correction to a name, date or duration must come from the issuer and remain traceable in the official record.
07Verify an MOH medical leave certificate online
The Bahrain national portal Medical Certificate Verification service says it can view and verify the authenticity of medical leave certificates issued by the Ministry of Health Health Centers Directorate. It lists MOH as provider and gives a one-working-day process time on the service information page.
The direct MOH verification form asks for information registered on the certificate. Use the official domain and copy the values exactly. A “not found” result can reflect a typing or record problem and should be checked with the issuer before anyone concludes that a certificate is false.
For an MOH certificate issued to the patient, the viewing and printing service uses patient information. Keep the file private. Share it only with the receiving body through its approved channel.

MOH and private-provider certificates use different checks
The national portal service described above is specifically for medical leave certificates issued by the MOH Health Centers Directorate. Do not assume the same form can authenticate every certificate issued by a private hospital or clinic. For a private-provider record, ask the recipient which verification method it accepts and ask the issuing facility for its official validation route.
Check the facility in NHRA's licensed-facilities records and the professional in the relevant licensed-professionals record. A licence check establishes the regulatory identity, but it does not by itself authenticate a particular document. Match the certificate reference with the issuer through a verified contact channel.
An employer or government service may set a submission deadline, require an original or digital file, or request approval through a separate system. Record those requirements before the appointment. This prevents a valid clinical document from being rejected because it is the wrong format or came from a provider outside the specified route.
08Corrections, approval and disputes
Start with the issuing facility for a spelling, CPR, date, stamp or missing-page problem. Provide the visit details and unedited certificate. Ask for a correction reference and a reissued document or official explanation.
MOH's medical-commission service says human-resources users in private and government sectors can submit sick-leave requests longer than five working days for electronic approval. That is an institutional approval route, not a public form for rewriting the clinician's record.
If a healthcare professional or facility refuses access to a medical report or there is a concern about professional conduct, preserve the request and response. Use the provider complaint process first where appropriate, then the NHRA guide to identify the regulator's jurisdiction. A payroll or employment dispute can require a different authority from a clinical-record complaint.
09Questions about Bahrain medical certificates
Can I print an MOH medical certificate online?
MOH provides an e-service for citizens and residents to view and print certificates issued by MOH institutions.
Can an employer verify sick leave?
The Bahrain portal provides an authenticity-verification service for medical leave certificates issued by the MOH Health Centers Directorate.
Can a doctor issue retrospective sick leave?
NHRA's professional conduct code says practitioners should not issue retrospective sick leave or issue it to a patient who did not attend.
Is a test result the same as a fitness certificate?
