By Gaurav Agarwal ยท Checked 6 October 2026

For domestic worker visa renewal in Bahrain, the employer renews through LMRA's EMS or at an LMRA branch by appointment. The passport must have more than two months of validity, and biometrics and the mandatory medical examination must be complete. Current fees start at BHD 23.5 for six months.

01Check the renewal conditions

  • The domestic worker's passport must be valid for more than two months.
  • The worker must have completed biometric data collection.
  • The mandatory medical examination must be complete.
  • A first-degree relative can act for the employer when properly authorised.

Read the current domestic employee renewal service. Apply before the permit ends when possible. If it expired less than 12 months ago, LMRA says it can still be renewed through EMS or in person. If it expired more than 12 months ago, obtain an NPRA residence extension and submit a new domestic-worker permit application instead.

02Prepare the documents

For the service-centre route, prepare:

  • The original domestic expatriate employee work-permit application and cancellation form.
  • A copy of the employer's identity card or another identity document that contains the employer's signature.
  • A copy of the authorised applicant's identity card or equivalent document when another person acts for the employer.

The online account may ask for current worker details already held by LMRA. Check the passport, biometric and medical status before opening the renewal to avoid paying against an incomplete record.

03Renew online through EMS

  1. Open the LMRA Expat Management System.
  2. Sign in with the employer's eKey account.
  3. Open the domestic-employer permit list and select the worker.
  4. Choose the renewal action and the available duration.
  5. Review the passport, medical and biometric information shown by the system.
  6. Submit the renewal and pay the invoice in EMS.
  7. Save the receipt and print the renewed permit after validation.

04Renew at an LMRA service centre

  1. Book an appointment through LMRA's Appointment Management System.
  2. Choose the domestic-services counter.
  3. Bring the original form and identity copies.
  4. The LMRA employee checks the application and renews the permit in the system.
  5. Pay at the service centre and collect the printed permit.

05Domestic worker renewal fees

The Bahrain National Portal listed these domestic renewal totals on 6 October 2026:

DurationRegular feeBahraini senior fee
6 monthsBHD 23.5BHD 18.5
1 yearBHD 42BHD 32
2 yearsBHD 79BHD 59

The senior rate applies to a Bahraini employer aged 60 or above and is limited to one domestic-worker permit. Use the invoice shown in the current application before paying.

06When the renewed permit becomes valid

The official service lists the process time as immediate. For EMS, validation happens after successful fee payment when the information is correct. For an in-person renewal, LMRA checks the application, collects the fee and prints the permit.

Save the receipt and printed permit. If the employer also needs a current residence-permit copy, use the separate Bahrain residence permit download guide.

07Check the worker's permit status

After payment, use LMRA's public domestic-worker lookup to confirm the permit status and validity. Search with the personal number, or with country and passport number.

If this is the worker's first permit, use the domestic worker visa Bahrain guide instead.

08Common renewal problems

The passport has two months or less remaining

Renew the passport first. The official service requires more than two months of validity.

Biometrics or medical examination is incomplete

Complete the missing LMRA requirement before paying. A repeated renewal submission does not replace the biometric or medical step.

The permit expired more than 12 months ago

This renewal route no longer applies. Obtain the NPRA residence extension required by the official page and submit a new domestic-worker permit application.

Payment completed but validity did not change

Save the receipt, check the status lookup once more, then contact LMRA on 17506055. The official page lists phone service from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
