Practical guide
What should I do if my baggage is missing at Bahrain Airport?
By Gaurav Agarwal · Updated 15 October 2026
Report the missing checked bag at the baggage claim area before you leave Arrivals. Gulf Air tells passengers to report the issue to the airport authority, which can help locate the bag or file a missing baggage claim. Bahrain Airport has baggage service points at baggage claim and Arrivals Meet and Greet.
01Choose the route that matches what is missing
Start by separating a missing checked bag from property lost elsewhere in the terminal. Bahrain Airport publishes one set of contacts for Lost or Mishandled Baggage and a separate Lost Property number.
A checked suitcase that never reaches the carousel belongs on the baggage route. A phone, wallet or other loose item left in the terminal belongs on the Lost Property route. This distinction sends your first call to the team named by the airport.
| Your situation | First official route | Contact or tool |
|---|---|---|
| Checked bag did not arrive | Report at the baggage claim service point before leaving Arrivals | +973 17138553 |
| You already left the airport | Call Bahrain Airport baggage help, then BAS Lost Baggage and Tracking Services | +973 17138553, +973 17 138 546 or +973 17 138 554 |
| Gulf Air checked bag is delayed | Use Gulf Air's Check Delayed Bag Status link after the airport report | Gulf Air delayed bag status link |
| Item was lost in the terminal | Call Bahrain Airport Lost Property | +973 17138489 |
02Report the bag before you leave baggage claim
Follow the signs to baggage reclaim and check the display above the carousel for your flight. Bahrain Airport says the baggage claim area has 8 carousels and that the signs identify the flight served by each one. If you cannot find the right carousel, ask an airport team member.
If the carousel stops and your checked bag has not arrived, go straight to the baggage service point in the Baggage Claim Area. Gulf Air's official guidance says the first action is to report the issue at baggage claim to the airport authority. The authority can help locate the baggage or file a missing baggage claim.
- Check that you are waiting at the carousel assigned to your flight.
- Ask an airport team member if the carousel is unclear.
- Go to the baggage service point in the Baggage Claim Area.
- Report that your checked bag did not arrive and keep the reference provided for follow-up.
- Save the airport and airline tracking contacts before leaving Arrivals.
03Use either official baggage service location
Bahrain Airport says Lost or Mishandled Baggage, also called Baggage Services, operates from two locations. One is in the Baggage Claim Area and the other is in the Arrivals Meet and Greet Area.
Use the Baggage Claim Area desk while you are still beside the carousels. If you have already entered the public Arrivals area, use the Arrivals Meet and Greet location or call +973 17138553. The airport page presents that number specifically for baggage assistance.
| Location | Best time to use it | Published contact |
|---|---|---|
| Baggage Claim Area | Before leaving the reclaim zone | +973 17138553 |
| Arrivals Meet and Greet Area | After entering public Arrivals | +973 17138553 |
04Use the airport and BAS tracking contacts
BAS lists Lost Baggage and Tracking Services under Lost & Found, with +973 17 138 546, +973 17 138 554 and [email protected]. The BAS contact page carries the heading 24 Hour Operations.
When you call, state that the issue is a checked bag from an arriving flight. Give the flight number, arrival date, airline, bag description and the report reference if one was issued. Ask which team currently owns the trace and which reference should be used for future calls.
05Track a delayed Gulf Air bag and submit a claim
After the airport report, Gulf Air passengers can use the airline's Check Delayed Bag Status link. Use the official link to open the delayed bag status tool. Keep the report reference ready for your follow-up.
For a baggage claim, Gulf Air provides a downloadable baggage claims form and says to submit it to the nearest Gulf Air Office. The form says to complete it in duplicate and return it to Gulf Air within five days if the bag has not been found.
- Open Gulf Air's Missing Baggage and Claims page.
- Select Check Delayed Bag Status.
- Enter the 10-character file reference from your baggage report and your last name.
- If you need to make a baggage claim, download the Gulf Air form.
- Submit the completed form to the nearest Gulf Air Office.
- Send any written complaint about a delayed Gulf Air bag within 21 days of getting it back.
06Use Lost Property for an item left in the terminal
If the missing property was not a checked bag, use Bahrain Airport's Lost Property contact. The airport publishes +973 17138489 for Lost Property. This is the clearer route for a loose item left in a seating area, shop, washroom, security area or other part of the terminal.
For general airport help, the local call center is +973 80007777 and the international call center is +973 80114444. The contact page says the airport is available 24x7. It also lists [email protected] and says contact-form responses may take 72 business hours, so use the phone for an urgent missing-item inquiry.
| Purpose | Official contact |
|---|---|
| Lost Property | +973 17138489 |
| Local call center | +973 80007777 |
| International call center | +973 80114444 |
| Feedback email | [email protected] |
07Keep one clear record for every follow-up
Write down the time and place of the airport report, the telephone numbers you called, the name of the airline and every reference you receive. Keep photos of the bag and baggage tag, and keep receipts for essentials you buy while the bag is delayed. Gulf Air's Conditions of Carriage say it may cover proven losses caused directly by the delay, and its claim form asks for a list of items bought because of it.
Use the airport number for location and immediate baggage assistance, the BAS numbers for Lost Baggage and Tracking Services, and the airline's own tracker or claim channel for airline follow-up.
- Record the airport baggage report reference.
- Save your flight, airline and arrival details.
- Note which desk or phone number handled each contact.
- Check the airline tracker using the same report reference.
- Keep copies of any form you submit and note the submission date.
08What the official pages don't say
Bahrain Airport and BAS do not publish compensation amounts or claim deadlines, because these depend on the operating airline. Gulf Air's Conditions of Carriage require written notice within 7 days of receiving a damaged bag and within 21 days of a delayed bag being placed at your disposal. For any other airline, follow that carrier's own conditions of carriage and claim page.
