Bahrain Apostille: Documents, Application Steps, Fee and Time
By Gaurav Agarwal ยท Checked 6 October 2026
For a Bahrain apostille, first confirm that the record is a public document and that the destination accepts the Hague Apostille Convention route. The Bahrain Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the designated competent authority. Use the official Documents Legalization Service with Standard eKey, select Apostille Certificate, submit the document details, then book a legalization-centre appointment for the online request.

Jump to a step
01Check whether the apostille route applies
An apostille replaces the longer diplomatic legalization chain only when the document falls within the Convention and will be used in a country for which the Convention applies. Ask the receiving authority whether it wants an apostille, ordinary legalization or another certification.
The HCCH status table records Bahrain's accession on 10 April 2013 and entry into force on 31 December 2013. The destination country's Convention relationship still matters, so check both countries rather than assuming every overseas use qualifies.

02Use Bahrain's competent authority
The HCCH names the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Bahrain's designated competent authority. This is why the application begins in the Bahrain National Portal's Documents Legalization Service.

03Prepare the document and identity records
The current official Bahrain service lists:
- The application form for ordinary certification or an Apostille Certificate.
- A copy of the applicant's Identity Card and contact number.
- The original document to be authenticated, carrying the accredited stamp and signature of the competent authority.
For a Bahrain-issued document, make sure its stamp and signature are approved for MOFA use. If a foreign document will be used in Bahrain, do not assume Bahrain issues its apostille. The competent authority in the country of origin normally handles apostilles for documents issued there.

04Apply through the Documents Legalization Service
- Open the official Documents Legalization Service.
- Select Documents Legalization Request.
- Sign in with Standard eKey.
- Select the Apostille Certificate option.
- Enter the document type, language, number of pages and destination requested by the form.
- Attach the required records and review the details.
- Submit and save the request number.

The personal application fields are behind eKey, so this guide shows only the public entry screen and does not recreate a private form.
05Book the legalization-centre appointment
After submitting online, return to the service hub and open Appointment Management. The portal says this tool books a visit for requests submitted online and can also display or reschedule an existing booking. Bring the original document and the records required for your request.
06Check the fee shown for your document
The current Bahrain portal does not publish one universal apostille price. It says the legalization fee varies according to the document type. Use the amount shown in the current application rather than an old fee quoted on another website. The current service page lists a process time of one working day.

07Check status and verify the issued apostille
Use Request Status Enquiry in the same service hub to follow the request. Open the request number to view its details and status. For an issued electronic apostille, use the unique QR-linked verification record printed on the certificate. HCCH records Bahrain's e-register as operating through QR codes rather than one public search URL.
08Common apostille problems
The destination rejects the apostille route
Ask the receiving authority which legalization chain it needs. Do not resubmit the same route without confirming the destination requirement.
The document lacks an accepted signature
Return to the issuing or competent authority. MOFA requires the original document to carry an accredited stamp and signature.
The document was issued outside Bahrain
Check the competent authority in the country of origin. An apostille is issued by the authority responsible for the place where the public document originated.
You selected ordinary legalization
Do not pay until the application route matches the receiving authority's requirement. If necessary, contact MOFA through the official portal.
Apostille or ordinary MOFA attestation?
If the destination requires the regular consular chain, follow the separate MOFA attestation Bahrain guide. It explains the origin-country, Bahraini mission and appointment sequence.
Bahrain apostille questions
Who issues an apostille in Bahrain?
The Hague Conference lists Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the designated competent authority. Apply through the official Documents Legalization Service rather than a private certificate seller.
Does every country accept a Bahrain apostille?
No. Check whether the destination accepts the Apostille Convention for the document and ask the receiving authority what it requires. A destination can require ordinary legalization or another certification route.
Can Bahrain apostille a document issued in another country?
Normally, the competent authority for the country where the public document originated issues its apostille. Confirm the origin-country route before submitting a foreign document in Bahrain.
What is the apostille fee in Bahrain?
The current Bahrain service does not publish one universal amount. It states that the fee varies by document type, so use the amount shown in the official application.
How long does the Bahrain service take?
The official portal lists one working day as the published process time for the service. Prior authentication, corrections and appointment availability can sit outside that estimate.
How can I verify an issued electronic apostille?
Use the QR-linked verification record printed on the certificate. The Hague Conference records Bahrain's electronic register as operating through QR codes.
