British schools in Bahrain should be compared by the child's year group, qualification pathway, current campus, admissions assessment and full cost. The British School of Bahrain and St Christopher's School both publish detailed information for families, including explicitly dated 2026/27 tuition schedules. They provide two useful starting points for a comparison, rather than a complete list or a best-school ranking.

This guide uses official sources checked on 6 October 2026. It explains the differences that matter when choosing between the two schools and the questions to resolve before accepting an offer. A school with a suitable curriculum still needs to fit the child's subjects, support needs and daily journey.

Compare the qualification pathway, not only the curriculum label

Start with the stage your child is entering. A younger pupil needs a suitable year placement and a manageable transition. A pupil joining close to examinations needs a more detailed discussion about subjects, completed work and the route to the final qualification.

BSB's senior-school page describes academic and vocational choices. Its Sixth Form page explains that the IB Diploma is delivered online through King's InterHigh, with guidance from the BSB team. Families considering that option should ask how lessons, supervision, assessments and fees work in practice.

St Christopher's Sixth Form page lists A Levels, the IB Diploma and BTEC routes. It also explains that general entry requirements sit alongside subject-specific requirements. Meeting a general threshold therefore does not settle eligibility for every subject.

For a teenager, make a list of the actual subjects needed for likely university courses and ask the school to review it. Confirm which combinations can be timetabled together. If the child is transferring during a qualification, share the exam board, syllabus, work already assessed and any registration details. Avoid assuming that a similarly named subject is automatically interchangeable.

Compare published 2026/27 tuition

The following selected annual tuition figures come from the official BSB fees page and St Christopher's fees page. All amounts are in Bahraini dinars and refer to academic year 2026/27, checked on 6 October 2026. These are tuition amounts, not complete first-year bills.

Nursery needs a separate comparison because the length of the day matters. BSB lists annual Nursery tuition of BHD 3,342. St Christopher's lists BHD 3,096 for the 12:15 finish and BHD 4,872 for the 14:25 finish in its 2026/27 schedule. Confirm the attendance pattern before comparing the lower number.

BSB separately lists an application charge, registration charges that vary by stage, a refundable resources deposit and an annual EdTech charge for Years 3 to 13. St Christopher's separately lists non-refundable application and registration charges, examination costs and optional extras. Request the complete quotation for your child so that tuition is not mistaken for the amount needed to join.

Build two totals: expected spending over the year and cash required before the first day. Record refundable deposits separately, since they affect initial cash without necessarily becoming a permanent expense. Ask about books, uniforms, transport, devices, activities and any support arrangement relevant to the child.

For a family with children in different year groups, calculate each child separately. Do not assume that one fee band or any concession extends to every sibling. If an employer contributes to education costs, compare the written allowance with the actual charge categories and payment dates. A tuition allowance may leave other items for the family to fund.

Understand the admissions assessment

The BSB admissions process separates application, assessment and enrolment. Younger applicants are assessed for readiness and development; Year 1 and Year 2 assessments include English and mathematics. From Year 3, the published process includes an online assessment under exam conditions and a writing task. Confirm the arrangements for your child's stage and whether an assessment can be taken before arriving.

St Christopher's admissions process similarly uses age-appropriate assessment, from play-based observation to formal testing. Its page says admission depends on assessment outcomes and available places. An application therefore begins a review; it does not guarantee a vacancy.

Ask what the assessment is designed to establish and which materials the school wants beforehand. Provide recent reports and relevant information about the child's learning. If the child has been taught in another language or curriculum, explain that clearly so the admissions team can discuss the appropriate process.

Prepare the child for the format and practical arrangements without promising an outcome. Confirm the appointment time, location, expected duration and who will meet the family. Ask when and how the decision will be communicated, and whether any further academic discussion will follow.

Confirm the current campus and the school day

Campus information changed during 2026, so older directories can lead families to the wrong place. St Christopher's current campus page says its Senior School in Al Raffa opened in August 2026 for Years 7 to 13. Its primary campus in Saar serves Nursery to Year 6. Use the current school directions when arranging a visit.

BSB's new senior-campus page describes a Years 10 to 13 campus in Hamala planned for the 2026/27 academic year. The page retains forward-looking opening language. Ask the school which site your child will attend on the proposed starting date rather than inferring that every planned facility is already operating.

Test the journey at a realistic time. If siblings will attend different sites, map both drop-offs and collections. Ask about bus routes, arrival supervision and the arrangements after clubs. A journey that works for the normal finish may not work after an activity or an early dismissal.

For younger children, confirm the actual day length, collection arrangements and whether optional sessions change the timetable. For older children, ask where examination classes, activities and support sessions take place. These details affect the daily routine more directly than the size of the campus shown in promotional photographs.

Discuss learning support before accepting a place

Make support needs part of the initial enquiry. St Christopher's learning-support page describes classroom assistance, small groups and targeted sessions. That describes a range of provision; it does not establish the arrangement that will be offered to a particular child.

At either school, share relevant reports and ask to speak with the team responsible for support. Request a clear explanation of what is proposed, who will deliver it, how progress will be reviewed and whether any charge is additional. Ask how teachers will receive the information they need to help the child settle.

Distinguish support for learning English from support for a specific learning need. A child may need one, both or neither. Describe the child's current classroom experience rather than assuming that a broad programme label covers the situation. If the family is awaiting a report, ask how that affects assessment or an offer.

During a visit, ask how a parent raises a concern and how the school follows it up. Concrete examples of communication and review help you understand the proposed partnership. Keep any important support commitment with the offer documents.

Prepare documents and review the offer

Use Bahrain's Ministry of Education institution finder to identify the exact school and contact details. For a pupil arriving from abroad, the private education services page is an official starting point for the relevant registration service. The receiving school should provide the checklist for the child's transfer circumstances.

Collect identity documents, recent school reports and the records requested by admissions. Check which items are needed for assessment, which are needed for a final offer and which must be completed before attendance. These can be separate stages. This school-selection guide does not replace the specific instructions for attestation or qualification recognition.

Read the offer together with the fee and withdrawal terms. Confirm the year group, start date, outstanding conditions, payment deadlines and notice requirements. If the family may relocate again, ask how the notice rule applies to that possibility before signing. Do not assume that all schools use the same refund policy.

Keep one final comparison sheet for the shortlisted schools. Record the confirmed subjects, campus, journey, support arrangement, total charges and unresolved questions. If both schools meet the academic requirements, these practical differences can make the decision clearer without inventing a universal ranking.

Frequently asked questions

Which British schools in Bahrain should I compare?

The British School of Bahrain and St Christopher's are two researched examples with detailed official admissions and fee information. Use the Ministry directory to widen the shortlist, then check each school's year coverage and qualification routes. This guide is not a complete directory.

Are 2026/27 fees available?

Yes. Both schools publish schedules explicitly labelled 2026/27. Compare the intended year group and include separate charges in the written quotation. Nursery attendance patterns also need to match.

Do British schools offer only A Levels?

No. The reviewed Sixth Form pages include other routes. Check how the qualification is delivered, which subjects are available and the applicable entry requirements. In particular, BSB describes its IB arrangement through King's InterHigh online.

Can a child transfer from a non-British curriculum?

Ask admissions to review the child's reports, subjects and intended year. Placement and the feasibility of a transfer require an individual decision, especially near examination years. Share completed syllabus and assessment details early.

Does paying an application fee secure a place?

No. Read the school's process and offer conditions. Assessment, available space, required documents and acceptance steps may still need to be completed. Ask what confirms the place and the starting date.

Where is St Christopher's Senior School now?

The school's current campus page says the Al Raffa Senior School opened in August 2026 for Years 7 to 13. Confirm current directions with the school before travelling, especially if an older listing still names Isa Town.

Checked: 6 October 2026. All tuition examples are explicitly for 2026/27. Availability, individual offers and services should be confirmed with the school before payment.
