Hawar Islands Bahrain: Boats, Resorts and Visits
By Gaurav Agarwal · Sources checked 6 October 2026
Book a Hawar resort stay or organised excursion before travelling. Hawar Resort by Mantis uses Durrat Al Bahrain Pavilion, but its official sites show different outward boat times. Confirm your sailing and complete package directly.

Choose the kind of Hawar visit before booking transport
A Hawar Islands trip needs more planning than a drive to a mainland beach. Decide whether you want a resort stay, an organised day visit or a specialist nature outing, then confirm the provider, departure point and return arrangement. These are different products. A boat passing through the area does not automatically give you permission to land wherever you like.
Hawar Resort by Mantis is one current visitor option. The official tourism listing describes accommodation, dining, a private beach, family facilities and activities. It gives +973 7799 9922 as the resort contact. Use that information to establish the product you want, rather than assuming a description of the island is a bookable itinerary.
This guide focuses on making the journey work and distinguishing confirmed arrangements from general island descriptions. Prices depend on dates, occupancy and inclusions, so no universal Hawar admission fee is quoted. A room rate, a day package, an excursion and a transfer-only fare should never be compared as if they buy the same experience.
Before paying, get the exact provider name, the travel date, the number and ages of guests, the transfer arrangement and the cancellation terms together in one confirmation. If a reseller handles the booking, establish who will contact you when the boat schedule changes.
Boat times differ between official pages
The resort's own website names Durrat Al Bahrain Pavilion as the mainland departure point. It currently shows an outward boat at 15:00, a return at 13:00, and asks guests to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before departure. It explicitly says timings can change.
The official Accor booking page instead shows 14:30 outward from Durrat Pavilion and 13:00 return, with variation under coastguard guidance. The two sources disagree about the outward time. Obtain the schedule attached to your actual reservation and reconfirm before driving south.
The crossing is described by the operators as roughly 25 to 30 minutes. That is time on the water, not the full journey from Manama or the airport. Add the road journey, the requested check-in allowance, boarding and the onward arrival process. A short crossing can still occupy a substantial part of a travel day.

Save the precise pavilion location from the operator rather than typing only “Hawar” into navigation. Hawar is your island destination, while the pavilion is where the mainland driver should take you. If using a taxi, explain that you need the boat departure facility and arrange a pickup plan for the return day.
Do not plan a flight or another time-critical commitment immediately after the advertised return. Weather or operating instructions can affect marine travel. Leave a comfortable buffer that reflects the consequence of being late, and ask the resort what happens if a sailing is delayed or cancelled.
Compare the complete package, not just the room photograph
The Mantis property page distinguishes rooms, suites, beach villas and overwater villas. It also describes family, wellness, sea and land activities. Choose accommodation for the number of guests and the way you want to spend the stay, not only for a dramatic promotional image.
Check maximum occupancy, children's ages, bedding and any extra-person charge. A room that can accommodate three people does not necessarily include three adults at the displayed price. Ask whether a cot or extra bed is available and whether requesting it changes the total.
Then ask what the rate includes: return boat transfers, meals, selected drinks, activities, access to particular facilities and any taxes or service charges. “All inclusive” still needs the package's own definition. Dining venues can have different booking rules, and some activities may require separate payment or an advance reservation.
At the time of review, Accor's page carried a notice that C-Salt Restaurant was undergoing maintenance until further notice. Other official descriptions still present the resort's wider dining offer. Check which restaurants will actually operate during your stay if a particular dining experience is important to your booking.

For a day visit, obtain an explicit day-package confirmation. Do not infer a day pass from a hotel's overnight reservation form or arrive at the pavilion hoping a spare seat means resort access. Confirm the return departure and the facilities included, because a day package may differ from an overnight guest's arrangements.
Wildlife is a reason to visit carefully
Hawar is also an important natural area. The Ramsar country summary identifies Hawar Islands as a Bahrain wetland site designated in 1997 and describes seabirds, seagrass habitat, dugongs and turtles. Its ecological summary is based on older site information; it is not a current landing permit or a wildlife-sighting schedule.
Bahrain Tourism's boating guide also includes Hawar among island destinations and describes opportunities to observe marine life. Use an operator who can explain the permitted route, current conditions and how observation is conducted. A general tourism recommendation does not establish that every shore or breeding area is open to visitors.
Ask a nature guide what is realistic for the season and the time you have. A trip focused on birds may have a different pace and route from a resort transfer. If wildlife observation is the main purpose, discuss it before booking accommodation so that you are not relying on an excursion that is unavailable during your stay.
Keep distance from animals, stay within the areas your guide permits and avoid feeding or following wildlife. Bring binoculars or use a zoom lens instead of trying to move closer to a nesting area. Take rubbish back to a proper disposal point and avoid collecting shells, plants or other natural material.
No responsible itinerary can guarantee that you will see a dugong, a dolphin or a particular bird. Choose the trip for the landscape and the opportunity to observe, with sightings as a possibility. That expectation makes the experience more rewarding and removes pressure to disturb animals for a photograph.
Family activities and access needs
The resort and tourism pages advertise children's clubs, water play, sports, a spa and adventure activities. Treat these as a menu of possibilities to confirm. Ask about operating times, supervision, age or height limits, booking requirements and extra charges for the activities your family most wants to try.
A children's club is not automatically a childcare service for every age. Explain your children's ages and whether an adult must remain present. Plan some unstructured time for meals and rest so that the stay does not become a race between scheduled activities.

For mobility needs, look beyond the room description. Ask about the complete route from the mainland drop-off through boat boarding, disembarkation and onward transfer to the room. Accor lists accessible accommodation, but that does not by itself establish that every transfer, beach surface or activity meets a particular need.
Provide dimensions or assistance requirements that matter to the journey and request a clear answer before payment. Confirm accessible bathroom details, step-free routes, seating and who can help at each stage. This is especially important when a return to the mainland cannot be arranged as casually as leaving a city hotel.
Prepare for an island stay
Use Bahrain's official transport guide to plan the mainland portion. A resort boat confirmation does not automatically include your hotel-to-pavilion taxi. Check the driving route, leave for the requested arrival time and tell the resort promptly if a delay threatens your boarding.
The seasonal weather guide helps you decide how much outdoor activity to plan. Check the current forecast and the operator's sailing advice close to departure. Bring sun protection, suitable clothing for the boat, a change of clothes and a secure bag for electronics.
Ask which original identification documents are required for your booking and bring them for every guest as instructed. Keep essential medication and travel documents in hand luggage that stays with you. Confirm luggage limits, food arrangements and anything the operator restricts before packing a large cooler or sports equipment.
The official visitor safety page lists 999 for emergencies. At the resort, also learn how to reach reception or on-site assistance and describe your location accurately. If a medical, dietary or accessibility need affects the feasibility of an island stay, discuss the available support before booking.
Keep the final transfer confirmation, payment terms and contact number saved offline. If weather changes the plan, contact the provider who issued your reservation and establish the revised arrangement before travelling to the pavilion. An old screenshot of a schedule is a record of what was displayed, not a guarantee that the boat will sail.
Frequently asked questions
Are the Hawar Islands part of Bahrain?
Hawar is presented by Bahrain's official tourism bodies as a Bahrain destination, and the Ramsar country record lists Hawar Islands under Bahrain. For a visit, use the confirmed Bahrain operator and departure arrangements.
Is Hawar worth visiting?
It can suit travellers who want an island resort stay or an organised nature experience and are comfortable planning around boats. It is less suitable as an improvised extra stop between tight mainland appointments.
How much does a Hawar trip cost?
There is no single verified universal fee. Ask for the complete price for your dates, ages, accommodation or day package, transfers and activities. Compare inclusions before choosing.
Where does the resort boat leave?
Hawar Resort by Mantis identifies Durrat Al Bahrain Pavilion. Confirm the map pin and your booked sailing. Its website and Accor show different outward times, so neither should replace your reservation confirmation.
Can I visit without staying overnight?
Ask about a current day package or organised excursion. The reviewed overnight booking pages do not establish a universal walk-up day pass or public ferry ticket for unrestricted island access.
