Car Insurance Not Showing in eTraffic: What to Check
By Gaurav Agarwal ยท Sources checked 6 October 2026
Payment alone does not prove that the vehicle-renewal service has received a usable policy record. Check the issued certificate, policy start date, owner identifier, plate or chassis details, and the insurer's transmission status. The official GDT renewal service requires civil-liability insurance covering the registration period.

01Separate insurance status from other renewal conditions
The government renewal page says the vehicle must pass technical inspection when required and have civil-liability insurance covering the registration certificate's validity. A renewal block can therefore come from insurance, inspection, fines or another vehicle-record condition.
The official app page says eTraffic services moved to MyGov. Use the current government channel shown there rather than an unofficial app or saved link.

02Troubleshooting sequence
- Open the insurer certificate and confirm it is issued, not only quoted or paid.
- Check the effective date. A future-start policy may not satisfy today's renewal.
- Match the owner CPR or CR, plate number, chassis number and registration type.
- Confirm the policy provides at least the required third-party liability period.
- Ask the insurer whether the electronic record was transmitted successfully and request a resend if needed.
- Retry the current MyGov or government renewal service after the insurer confirms transmission.
- If insurance appears but renewal still fails, check inspection, fines and other GDT conditions.
03What to send the insurer
Send the receipt, certificate, policy number, payment time, vehicle registration card and a screenshot of the error with personal data covered where possible. State which identifier is wrong or missing. Do not publish your CPR, chassis number or full certificate.
Verify the insurer's legal name in the CBB Licensing Directory and use the official contact channel on the insurer's site.
04If the insurer does not correct the record
Ask the insurer's complaint team for a written response and reference. If unresolved, the CBB insurance complaint procedure explains the insurer-first route and later escalation. A GDT service issue remains a government-service matter, so keep the insurer's transmission confirmation when contacting GDT.
05eTraffic insurance questions
How long should an update take?
No universal time is stated in the official renewal page. Ask the insurer for its transmission status rather than relying on a guessed delay.
Can I renew with a payment receipt?
The government service checks renewal conditions. Keep the receipt, but confirm that the policy record was issued and transmitted.
What if the policy starts next month?
Ask the insurer whether the dates match the registration period required by GDT.
Should I buy another policy?
Not before confirming whether the first policy can be corrected or cancelled. Duplicate cover can create refund and claim complications.
07Identify which record failed before trying again
The GDT renewal page lists valid insurance, inspection where required and cleared traffic contraventions as separate conditions. A generic renewal failure therefore does not prove that the insurer failed to transmit the policy.
| What you see | Likely check | Who can correct it |
|---|---|---|
| No issued certificate | Payment or underwriting still incomplete | Insurer or intermediary |
| Certificate starts later | Effective date does not cover today's renewal | Insurer, if amendment is permitted |
| Plate or chassis differs | Vehicle identifier mismatch | Insurer after evidence review |
| Insurance valid but renewal blocked | Inspection, fines or another GDT condition | Relevant GDT service |
| Old policy appears | New record not matched or transmitted | Insurer transmission team |
The official app page identifies the current government channel for traffic services. Use the current app or portal rather than a bookmarked legacy screen.
08Worked example: the chassis number has one wrong character
Hypothetical example: a driver receives the issued certificate, but renewal still says there is no valid insurance. The plate is correct, while one character in the chassis number differs from the registration card. The driver sends the insurer the certificate, registration card and a masked screenshot of the error, identifies the exact mismatch and requests a corrected electronic transmission.
- Do not buy a duplicate policy while the first insurer is investigating.
- Ask for the corrected certificate, not only an email saying the issue is fixed.
- Request confirmation that the electronic record was transmitted after correction.
- Retry through the official service and save the result.
- If the corrected policy appears but renewal still fails, review the other GDT conditions.
Never post a full CPR, chassis number or policy certificate in a public forum. Send necessary evidence only through the verified company channel.
09Escalate the right problem to the right organisation
Verify the insurer's legal name in the CBB Licensing Directory. If the insurer will not correct a policy record, use its formal complaint process and keep the response. The CBB insurance complaint procedure explains escalation after the insurer stage.
If the insurer proves that a correct record was sent and the issue is in the government renewal service, provide GDT with the certificate, transmission confirmation and error reference. Separating these two cases avoids sending an insurer-data complaint to a traffic-service team or a registration-condition question to the insurer.
Can a broker resend the insurance record?
Ask who issued and transmitted the policy. The licensed insurer remains the risk carrier even when a broker arranged the sale.
Will a future-start policy show immediately?
It may be issued, but the effective date still has to satisfy the registration period required by GDT.
