Practical guide
LMRA Verification of Eligibility in Bahrain
By Gaurav Agarwal · Updated 12 October 2026
Open LMRA's Verification of Eligibility service and search with your CPR or personal number, or choose Passport and enter the passport number plus nationality. The result is immediate. An eligible result means you may proceed to an approved Labour Registration Centre; it does not mean that a Registered Worker Permit has already been issued.
01Which LMRA check do you need?
Use the eligibility check only for the Labour Registration Program. It is different from checking a current work permit, tracking an employer's application or checking an NPRA visit visa.
Service facts were checked on 12 October 2026.
| Your situation | Use this service | What it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Terminated work permit and considering the Registered Worker route | LMRA Verification of Eligibility | Whether you can proceed to a registration centre |
| Employer has filed a work permit application | LMRA work permit tracking FAQ | The FAQ mentions Application ID tracking, but the live eligibility form does not show that option today |
| Need current work-permit status and validity | View Expatriate Employee Data | LMRA work-permit record |
| Need visit visa or eVisa status | NPRA eVisa platform | Entry or visit visa record, not LMRA eligibility |
| Employer or authorised representative following a case | LMRA employer channels | Application discussion is limited to registered authorised persons |
02How to verify LMRA eligibility online
The live LMRA form offers Identity Card for a Personal Number and Passport for a passport number plus nationality. Work Permit and Application ID are not shown as live tabs today.
The public form asks for a Personal Number, or a passport number plus nationality. Do not send a passport image, bank information or an eKey code to anyone claiming they must run this public lookup for you.
- Open the official LMRA Verification of Eligibility page.
- Choose Identity Card to enter your Personal Number, or choose Passport.
- For Passport, enter the passport number and select the nationality.
- Check every character and submit the public lookup.
- Read the result and note whether the service says you can proceed to a Labour Registration Centre.
- If the record is not found, use the route table above rather than changing personal details.
- If eligible, use an approved centre and carry the official form and passport copy required for the permit application.
03Check by SMS or call the expatriate service centre
LMRA publishes two alternatives when the web check is inconvenient. Send an SMS containing the worker's CPR number to +973 33150150, or call the Expatriate Services Call Centre on +973 17103103.
The service directory also publishes [email protected]. Do not email a full passport or unrelated confidential documents unless an official case handler requests a specific item through a verified channel.
| Channel | What you need | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Web | Personal Number, or Passport Number plus Nationality | Immediate self-service result |
| SMS | CPR number to +973 33150150 | Simple eligibility query |
| Call | +973 17103103 | Clarify a result or the next centre step |
| [email protected] | Written service question without unnecessary personal attachments |
04Who can apply for a Registered Worker Permit?
LMRA's permit page says the worker must be inside Bahrain with a terminated work permit. The worker must have no criminal record or absconding offence, must not be in breach of the contract and must not appear on a Commercial Registration ownership list. Visit visa holders are not eligible.
The national service directory cites Resolution No. 1 of 2022, Article Five for assigning LMRA tasks to labour registration centres. LMRA's permit page uses the English label Decree Act No. 1 of 2022 for the instrument. Follow the current service conditions rather than relying on the translated label alone.
An eligible result is only the first gate. LMRA and NPRA still review the application and documents before a permit is issued. If the result is not eligible, ask the Expatriate Services Call Centre on +973 17103103 which condition applies.
| Condition | Check before you go |
|---|---|
| Location | You are physically in Bahrain |
| Permit | The work permit is terminated, not merely close to expiry |
| Legal record | No criminal record or absconding offence blocks the route |
| Contract | You are not recorded as violating the contract |
| Visa type | You are not a visit visa holder |
| Commercial ownership | Your name is not on a CR ownership list |
| Payment commitment | You can meet the published permit and monthly fees |
05What to do after an eligible result
Go to an approved Labour Registration Centre. Complete and sign the Registered Worker Permit Service Form, provide a passport copy and pay the BHD 5 administration fee at submission. The centre uploads the application, LMRA evaluates it and NPRA performs its scrutiny before payment and issuance.
LMRA publishes two working days for its part and seven working days for cooperating entities. That is the permit process time after application, not the immediate eligibility-check time.
- Save the eligible result and choose an approved Labour Registration Centre.
- Complete the official service form and take a clear passport copy.
- Let the centre submit the application and upload the required documents.
- Pay the BHD 5 administration fee through an official LMRA payment channel.
- Wait for LMRA evaluation and NPRA scrutiny.
- Pay the permit amount only when the official application is ready for payment.
- Collect the work card from the centre and attend its introductory session.
06Registered Worker Permit fees after eligibility
LMRA does not list a fee for the public eligibility lookup. Fees apply when an eligible worker proceeds with the Registered Worker Permit application. LMRA publishes the totals below and separately lists a BHD 15 monthly fee for the 6-month, 1-year and 2-year permits.
The BHD 15 residence extension and BHD 150 ticket insurance in each initial total are marked as one-time payments. The BHD 5 administration fee is paid when the application is submitted. Payment channels listed by LMRA include SADAD, BFC, Lulu Exchange and BenefitPay Fawateer.
| Period | Total initial registration | Components |
|---|---|---|
| 6 months | BHD 267.5 | 52.5 permit, 45 health insurance, 15 residence extension, 150 ticket insurance, 5 work card, 5 administration |
| 1 year | BHD 365 | 105 permit, 90 health insurance, 15 residence extension, 150 ticket insurance, 5 work card, 5 administration |
| 2 years | BHD 560 | 210 permit, 180 health insurance, 15 residence extension, 150 ticket insurance, 5 work card, 5 administration |
07Eligibility, application tracking and visa status are different
LMRA's work permit tracking FAQ says an application ID can track an application, and that the ID comes from the employer's representative. The live eligibility form does not show an Application ID option today. Ask the employer's representative for the ID and the current official tracking route. LMRA discusses application details only with people registered as authorised or responsible persons.
For a current work permit, use View Expatriate Employee Data with personal number, country and passport number. It is also available through MyGov with Advanced Electronic Key 2.0. The LMRA Expat Portal is a separate public search using Personal Number and Passport Expiry Date.
For a visit visa, entry visa or eVisa application, use NPRA's eVisa platform. An LMRA eligibility result does not confirm visit-visa validity and an NPRA visa result does not decide Registered Worker eligibility.
Three common examples
Cancelled work permit: run the eligibility check. If eligible, proceed to an approved centre with the official form and passport copy.
Employer application pending: ask the employer's representative for the application ID. LMRA's FAQ mentions Application ID tracking, but the live eligibility form does not show that option today.
Visitor checking a visa: use NPRA eVisa. Visit visa holders are not eligible for the Registered Worker Permit.
What the public result does not mean
Eligible does not mean issued, paid or approved by NPRA. Use the official record and contact channel that matches the issue.
08FAQs
