Bahrain Driving License Renewal: Online Steps, Fees and Eligibility

Bahrain driving license renewal is available online for private and motorcycle licences. Open the official GDT service, enter your personal number, ID card expiry date and block number, choose Driving License and the category, then continue to verify eligibility and pay. Renewal opens three months before the expiry date for drivers under 60 with a valid Bahraini licence. Renewing after expiry adds a late fee.
Checked 30 September 2026: a five-year renewal costs BHD 12 for citizens and residents alike. Clear every traffic fine first. Drivers aged 60 or over, and anyone whose licence expired more than three years ago, must visit GDT for a medical examination.
01Before you start
- Use the online route for a private or motorcycle licence.
- Renewal opens three months before the expiry date. Renewing after expiry adds a late fee.
- Have a valid ID card. A personal photo is optional on the official service list.
- Pay all fines, violations and accident amounts, and make sure there is no legal restriction on your personal number.
- Non-Bahraini applicants need a valid residence permit.
The public form asks for your personal number, ID card expiry date, block number, licence type and licence category.
02Renew your Bahrain driving license online
- Open the official Driving License Renewal page and choose Use eService.
- On the GDT services page, choose Driving License Renewal.
- Enter the personal number, ID card expiry date and block number.
- Select Driving License, then choose Private or Motorcycle.
- Choose Continue. Follow the remaining screens to confirm the conditions, pay and request the renewed licence.
Do not enter another person's identity details. The screenshot is the empty public form.

The official directory lists the electronic copy as immediate, a printed copy in up to two working days at GDT, and an in-person service time of one working day. Bahrain Post delivery can take up to five working days.
04Medical and vision test rules
Private and motorcycle renewals are exempt from the general vision-test condition on the official service page. GDT says drivers aged 60 or over must visit for a medical examination. A visit is also required when the licence has been expired for more than three years.
GDT requires an eye test for Special Use, Private Transport and Public Transport categories. These categories are outside the private and motorcycle choices shown on the public online form.
05Expired licence and late fee
GDT publishes a late fee of 500 fils for each day after expiry for the first 40 days. After that, a fixed BHD 20 fee applies, so the late fee does not go above BHD 20. If the expiry is more than three years old, visit GDT for the medical examination before renewal.
If court-transferred contraventions block renewal, settle them with GDT. The online renewal can continue after settlement.
