CPR Renewal Bahrain: Online Steps, Fees and Documents

01Choose your applicant category first

The Information and eGovernment Authority separates renewal rules into five groups. Use the row that describes the cardholder, not the person helping with the application.

The BHD 1 citizen fee starts at age 60. The dedicated online ID Card Renewal for Senior Citizens tile shown by bahrain.bh is for citizens aged 70 or above who have one residential address.

These fees were checked on 29 September 2026 on the official iGA ID Card and Civil Record Services page. Open your category on that page before payment in case a fee or condition changes.

02What you need for CPR renewal

For every category, confirm that your passport and Bahrain residence details are current before starting. The online service may ask for an extra document when an official condition is not met.

Bahraini citizens

• A valid passport
• Your current Bahrain residential address
• A recent personal photo that meets the Identity Card requirements
• Your Identity Card number for the online route
• The applicant must be in Bahrain for an ordinary online application
• Biometric registration when required for a person aged 10 or above whose data is not already recorded. Citizens aged 70 or above and people with special needs are exempt from that biometric appointment requirement

Non-Bahrainis registered with LMRA

• A valid original passport
• Valid Bahrain residence status recorded with NPRA
• The applicant must be present in Bahrain
• An Identity Card number and current residential address
• A recent personal photo
• Completed LMRA records for employment, residence, passport, address and biometrics

Domestic workers

The sponsor should first confirm whether the Identity Card fee was already paid through LMRA, because that changes the amount due. The worker also needs a valid passport, valid NPRA residence status, presence in Bahrain, an Identity Card number, a recent photo and complete LMRA data.

Non-Bahrainis outside LMRA

Prepare a valid original passport, valid NPRA residence status for a worker or dependent, the applicant must be in Bahrain, the current address, a recent photo and the Identity Card number for an online application. A person aged 10 or above may need a biometric appointment if the required data is missing.

03CPR renewal Bahrain: online steps

1. Open Identity Card Services on bahrain.bh. This is the official public entry page.
2. Select ID Card Issuance and Renewal Services. The next screen displays the renewal routes.
3. Choose Family Services when renewing for yourself or an eligible family member. This route uses Standard eKey and lets you view card details, renew a card and follow request status.
4. Choose the ID Card Issuance Services tile when that route applies to the applicant. The same screen also displays dedicated tiles for eligible senior citizens and Bahraini citizens abroad.
5. Review the applicant details. Confirm the passport, residence, address, photo and biometric data before continuing.
6. Upload only the documents requested by the service. The National Portal says a required attachment is shown when a specific condition is not met.
7. Confirm the fee and submit. Make sure the amount matches the applicant category in the official iGA panel.
8. Keep the application reference. Use it to follow the request and postal delivery where applicable.

04When can you renew the card?

The official Family ID Card Services page says the applicant must already have an Identity Card. Renewal is available after the card expires or during the final month before its expiry date. iGA says an earlier application is treated as a replacement for a lost or damaged card, which costs BHD 4 for a citizen rather than the ordinary renewal fee.

An Identity Card is valid for five years from issue. For people over 70, it is valid for ten years. Official pages list no late fee; an expired card renews through the same service at the normal fee.

A resident should also confirm that passport, NPRA residence and LMRA information are valid and consistent. The card service relies on those records, so correcting the source record may be necessary before renewal can proceed.

05Do you need a CPR appointment?

You do not need an appointment when the entire renewal can be completed online. If iGA requires a counter visit, the appointment rule depends on the applicant category and service route.

06How long CPR renewal takes

iGA lists an estimated online processing time of one to two business days for citizens and two business days for non-Bahrainis when all requirements are met. The listed front office estimate is about 30 minutes, while fast track is listed as under 30 minutes. These are service estimates, not guaranteed delivery times.

For delivery, bahrain.bh offers post or personal collection. Collection points shown by the official service are Salman Port, Isa Town and the Seef Mall Muharraq kiosk. Confirm the available option on your application before submitting it.

If the request is delayed, first check whether the passport, NPRA residence, LMRA record, address, photo or biometric data needs an update. Do not submit a second paid request while the first request is still active unless the official service tells you to do so.

07Renewing an Identity Card from outside Bahrain

Bahraini citizens abroad should choose Renew or Replace ID Cards for Citizens Abroad on the renewal service screen. International shipping costs extra according to the delivery company's policy. The person concerned, a first-degree relative or an authorized person can submit the request.

The ordinary resident renewal routes require the applicant to be in Bahrain. A non-Bahraini resident should return to Bahrain and make sure the NPRA residence and, where applicable, LMRA records are valid before applying.
