Vehicle Registration Renewal Bahrain: Insurance, Inspection and Fees

Vehicle registration renewal in Bahrain can be completed online if the vehicle has at least third-party insurance valid for a full year, has passed inspection where required (every year, or for private cars once they are over five years old), and has no unpaid traffic fines. Open the official Vehicle Registration Renewal service, choose the owner's identity type, enter the requested owner and vehicle details, confirm the conditions, pay any contraventions and complete the renewal fee.
Checked 30 September 2026: annual registration starts at BHD 10 for a motorcycle and BHD 15 for a vehicle weighing no more than 2.5 tonnes. The exact fee depends on vehicle weight. Start during the three months before the current renewal date.
01What must be ready first
- Insurance: at least third-party cover valid for one full year from the registration month.
- Inspection: every vehicle needs an annual inspection, except vehicles registered as Private, which need one only once they are more than five years old.
- Traffic fines: clear all contraventions against the vehicle. Court-transferred cases must be settled with GDT before the online renewal can finish.
- Owner and vehicle details: the public form starts with Personal Number, Commercial Registration Number, GCC ID Number or Unit Number.
The digital service directory lists no document upload. GDT checks the linked insurance, inspection and traffic records electronically.
02Renew the vehicle registration online
- Open the official Vehicle Registration Renewal service.
- Sign in with your eKey when the service asks.
- Choose the owner's identity type: Personal Number, Commercial Registration Number, GCC ID Number or Unit Number.
- Enter the requested owner information, vehicle number and registration type, then continue.
- Review the insurance and inspection conditions shown for the vehicle.
- Pay outstanding traffic contraventions if the service displays any.
- Pay the registration fee and complete the renewal.

You can also renew in the eTraffic or MyGov app or at an iGA kiosk. Pay by debit or credit card.

The annual fee is the table amount. Any inspection fee (BHD 5 or BHD 15) is paid on top, which is why the official catalogue quotes BHD 10 to BHD 80 in total.
04Inspection fee and late fee
- Internal inspection or inspection through a private inspection centre: BHD 5 per inspection.
- External inspection: BHD 15.
- Late renewal: 500 fils per day from the day after expiry. After 40 days this becomes a fixed BHD 20.
The service directory lists online processing as immediate. A registration certificate is valid for one year.
05Senior citizen discount
A Bahraini vehicle owner aged 60 or over can receive a 50 percent discount on the annual registration renewal fee for one vehicle. Use the official Vehicle Registration Renewal Fee Discount service to submit the owner's personal number, vehicle number and registration type.
