01Choose the certificate task you actually need

These are separate services. A proof-of-marriage certificate is not a replacement copy, and registering a new contract is not the route for attesting a certificate for use abroad.

02Register a new marriage contract

Use the official Register Marriage Contract service when an authorised officiant concluded the marriage outside the court and the contract now needs Ministry of Justice documentation.

The service is available in Arabic. Prepare:

• The original application form for issuing the marriage contract document received from the officiant.
• The original premarital medical examination certificate and the Ministry of Justice copy.
• The original documents used by the officiant to complete the application.
• Arabic translations of foreign documents and Bahrain MOFA authentication where required.

The official eService lists seven working days. It does not publish a fee on the current information page, so do not rely on an amount copied from an unofficial website.

03Open the Arabic marriage service and sign in

1. Open Bahrain's Marriage Services page.
2. Use the Arabic switch because the service itself is Arabic only.
3. Select the marriage-contract registration service.
4. Sign in with eKey if the portal asks for authentication.
5. Approve the matching request in the eKey 2.0 app.
6. Follow the private screens to enter the contract details and submit the documents.

04Request proof that the marriage continues

The Proof of marriage certificate confirms that the marriage continues as of the issue date. The official service requires:

• The original marriage contract, or a copy accepted by the judge.
• The presence of both spouses.
• Two competent adult witnesses.
• Copies of the identity cards of both spouses and both witnesses.

1. Download the relevant form from the Ministry of Justice forms section.
2. Print and complete it by hand.
3. Combine the form and required records into readable PDF files.
4. Email them to the Sharia Procedures Department at the address shown on the official service page.
5. Include a Bahrain contact number.
6. Keep the acknowledgement email.
7. Attend with the spouses and witnesses when the department gives the court appointment.

The current page lists eight working days and does not publish a service fee.

05Get a true copy of a Bahrain marriage document

The Ministry of Justice service-level guide lists a true-copy service for marriage and divorce documents issued in Bahrain. The original person attends with valid identity at the Sharia Procedures Department in the Sharia Courts Building in Riffa, Al Hunayniyah.

The Ministry guide lists no service fee and a 15-minute processing time for this specific true-copy service. Bring the identity document and the marriage record details needed to locate the document. Contact the department first if the record is old or the applicant cannot attend personally.

06Foreign certificate or overseas use

The certificate was issued outside Bahrain

Do not treat a foreign marriage certificate as a Bahrain-issued record. The service may require origin-country certification, Bahrain MOFA authentication and Arabic translation before it can support a Bahrain legal or civil-record process.

The Bahrain certificate will be used abroad

First obtain the correct Bahrain-issued certificate or copy. Then follow the receiving authority's legalization requirement. Use the Bahrain MOFA attestation guide for ordinary legalization, or the Bahrain apostille guide when the destination accepts the Apostille Convention route.

07Common marriage-certificate problems

The portal says the service is Arabic only

Use the Arabic switch on the marriage-service page. Do not search for a separate English transaction that the portal does not offer.

You requested proof when you needed a copy

Choose the true-copy route for an existing Bahrain-issued record. Proof of marriage has spouses, witnesses and a court approval process because it confirms the marriage continues on the issue date.

A foreign document is rejected

Check authentication and translation requirements before resubmitting. The registration service states that foreign documents must be authenticated by Bahrain MOFA and translated into Arabic.

eKey approval does not match

Reject the app request and start again from the official Bahrain portal. Approve only the matching request shown by the official service.
