Bahrain Vehicle Inspection: Fees, Centres and Passing Checklist
By Gaurav Agarwal · Checked 5 October 2026
For a Bahrain vehicle inspection, first confirm that your vehicle is due, then use the Traffic app's Service and Vehicle Inspection Centres Inquiry to choose a current centre. Private vehicles need annual inspection after they become more than five years old. Other registration types require annual inspection.

01Who needs a Bahrain vehicle inspection?
GDT's public instructions state that inspection is annual for all vehicles. A private vehicle is the exception until its age exceeds five years. Registration renewal can start during the three months before the current renewal date.
Check the vehicle record in the Traffic app or the renewal service rather than estimating from the model year. If inspection is required, the vehicle must pass before registration renewal can be completed.

02Find a current vehicle inspection centre
- Open the official Inquiries about external technical inspection centres page.
- Open the Traffic app.
- Choose the service for enquiries about service and vehicle inspection centres.
- Use the map and tap the area you want.
- Read that centre's current location, working hours and contact number before travelling.
The official directory deliberately sends users to the live app map. This is safer than relying on an old centre list because locations and working hours can change.

03Prepare the vehicle using the official checklist
The GDT inspection form shows what the test can cover. Before your appointment, check these groups:
- Body and visibility: doors, locks, glass, mirrors, windscreen, wipers, body panels, bumpers and the blank, secure number plate area.
- Tyres and wheels: tyre condition, rims, studs, nuts and wheel-bearing play.
- Interior controls: steering, gear control, brake pedal, accelerator, clutch, seats and seat belts.
- Electrical equipment: headlights, tail lights, brake lights, indicators, reverse lamps, horn, starter and battery.
- Roadworthiness: front, rear and hand brakes, wheel alignment, engine smoke and exhaust.
- Underside: leaks, fuel and exhaust systems, chassis, floor pan, engine and gearbox mountings, steering joints and suspension.
- Emissions: the form includes hydrocarbon and carbon-dioxide fields.
Repair obvious faults before the test. The published form does not provide pass thresholds, so do not treat this checklist as a substitute for the inspector's result.

04Vehicle inspection fees and documents
The official registration-renewal directory lists the inspection charge per time:
- BHD 5: internal inspection.
- BHD 15: external inspection.
The English page does not define which individual centre falls under each label. Confirm the applicable amount with the centre shown in the Traffic app. Private inspection centres may operate through the external route.
The online registration-renewal service lists no required attachments. Keep your valid ID, vehicle registration details and insurance information available because the centre still needs to identify the vehicle and its owner. Civil-liability insurance must cover the registration period before renewal.

05What happens at the inspection
- Arrive during the centre's current working hours with the vehicle clean enough for the plate, chassis area, lights and tyres to be examined.
- The inspector checks the applicable body, control, electrical, brake, exhaust, wheel, underside and emissions items.
- The official form records a pass or fail result, inspector remarks and, when needed, a period for vehicle repair.
- Keep the result for registration renewal. The official form states that registration must be completed within three months from the inspection date.

06If the vehicle fails inspection
- Read the failed items and inspector remarks on the result.
- Check the repair period entered on the form. The public form provides a field for this period but does not publish one fixed number of days.
- Repair every listed defect.
- Return to an approved centre for reinspection before the stated period ends.
Reinspection fee: the official fee schedule states that the inspection charge applies each time. It does not publish a separate discounted retest fee, so confirm the amount with the selected centre before returning.
07After passing, renew the registration
Once the inspection requirement is cleared and insurance is valid, complete renewal through the official Vehicle Registration Renewal service. Pay any traffic dues and the registration fee shown for the vehicle.
