EWA Deposit Refund Bahrain: Close the Account, Apply and Get Paid

01Check that you need a deposit refund

Use the official EWA Deposit Refund Service when you paid a security deposit on a rental-premises account, the account has been closed, and the final bill has been issued.

02Close the EWA account and receive the final bill

1. Sign in to the official Electricity and Water Services portal.
2. Open Close Account.
3. Submit the closure and disconnection request.
4. Wait until the account is terminated and the final bill is issued.
5. Pay or resolve any amount due before requesting the deposit.

EWA's customer terms say dues on the customer's other accounts may be deducted before the remaining deposit is returned. If you are checking an unexpected bill before closing, use the EWA bill and complaint guide.

03Prepare the required documents

For a normal tenant refund, EWA lists:

If you need to obtain an electronic CPR copy, check that the result meets the ID evidence requested in the refund form.

• the deposit or credit refund request form, except when the online channel does not require it
• a copy of both sides of the ID card, or ID card reading data
• an official document showing the IBAN

Check that the account number, customer identity and beneficiary information agree. A screenshot of typed bank details is weaker than an official bank-issued IBAN document and may delay review.

04Submit the EWA deposit refund

1. Open EWA's Deposit Refund service.
2. Sign in with Advanced eKey, as labelled on the Bahrain portal.
3. Select the closed account.
4. Enter the refund and beneficiary details.
5. Upload the ID and official IBAN evidence requested on screen.
6. Review the bank details carefully and submit.
7. Save the request reference.

The detailed form is behind eKey, so this guide does not reproduce a private account screen. EWA also accepts the request through its service channels. The published process is submission, specialist review, then bank deposit.

05Track the request and bank transfer

EWA lists no service fee and a processing time of seven working days. The completed refund is deposited into the bank account.

1. Use Request Status Enquiry in the EWA services portal.
2. Open the submitted reference and check whether EWA requested another document.
3. Confirm that the beneficiary IBAN remains active.
4. If seven working days have passed after a complete application, contact EWA with the account and request references.

06Extra documents for heirs and commercial accounts

For a deceased customer, the government directory lists authorization from the heirs, the religious ordinance document, death certificate and ID evidence for the heirs. The heirs may need to attend personally or provide the official power of attorney described by EWA.

For a commercial account, download the business CR certificate for the registered entity named in the refund application.

For a commercial-registration account, the directory lists an application form with authorized signature and stamp, the commercial registration copy and the authorized person's ID evidence. Follow the live checklist for the entity shown on the account.

07Common refund problems

The service does not show the account

Confirm that the account is closed and the final bill exists. A still-active account is not ready for the deposit-refund service.

You used Standard eKey

The Bahrain portal labels Deposit Refund as an Advanced eKey service. Complete the required eKey level before retrying.

The IBAN is rejected

Upload an official bank document and check the beneficiary details. Do not upload a cropped account screenshot that omits the holder or IBAN.

The refund is lower than the original deposit

Check the final bill and other EWA account dues. EWA's terms allow eligible dues to be deducted before the remaining deposit is returned.

You need in-person help

The government directory says to book Deposit and Credit Refund through Skiplino or EWA's website before visiting the selected customer service centre. EWA customer care is 17515555.

EWA deposit refund questions

Is the EWA deposit returned automatically after I close the account?

No. Close the account, wait for the final bill, then submit the separate Deposit Refund request through the official EWA service. Save the request reference so you can follow it.

How much does the EWA deposit refund service cost?

EWA lists no service fee. This does not mean the full original deposit is guaranteed because eligible unpaid amounts can be settled from the balance before the remainder is returned.

How long does an EWA deposit refund take?

The published service time is seven working days for a complete request. Use the official status enquiry if the application remains open after that period.

What bank document should I upload?

Use an official IBAN document for the intended beneficiary. Check the account-holder details and full IBAN before submission because a cropped or inconsistent document can delay review.

What changes for a company account?

What should I do if the refund amount is lower than the deposit?
