01The correct renewal route in Bahrain

Indian passport renewal in Bahrain is a reissue application. The Embassy of India directs residents through the Global Passport Seva portal, followed by an in-person appointment at the Indian Consular Application Centre, or ICAC, in Bahrain Mall.

  1. Create or use your Passport Seva account for the Embassy of India in Bahrain.
  2. Complete the passport reissue application and print the final form.
  3. Prepare the original passport, copies, Bahrain residence proof, photographs and any documents required for changes.
  4. Book the ICAC appointment through the official ICAC appointment page.
  5. Attend ICAC with the originals, submit biometrics or identification as requested, and pay the applicable fee.
  6. Track the file through ICAC or Passport Seva until collection or delivery.

Where to go: ICAC is at No. 234, First Floor, Bahrain Mall, Avenue 28, Building 184, Block 410, Sanabis, Manama. The Embassy lists consular-service hours as 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday to Thursday, excluding public holidays. An appointment is required for submission. Collection does not require an appointment.

02Complete the Passport Seva form

  1. Open Global Passport Seva and select the Indian mission in Bahrain when registering.
  2. Create a user ID, verify the account and sign in.
  3. Choose passport reissue. Select the reason that matches your case: expiry, pages exhausted, lost, damaged or change of particulars.
  4. Enter the current passport details exactly as printed. Use the full Indian and Bahrain addresses requested by the form.
  5. Select 36 pages or 60 pages and normal or Tatkaal only after checking the fee and eligibility tables below.
  6. Upload the required records in the correct format. Review names, dates and addresses before final submission.
  7. Print the completed application. Do not leave the printed form and online record with conflicting details.

03Standard document checklist

For an ordinary adult reissue because the passport is expiring or has expired, the Embassy passport-service page lists these core items:

  • Completed and signed application form.
  • A recent 2 inch by 2 inch colour photograph with a white background, pasted in the designated space.
  • The original current passport, including any additional booklet.
  • Self-attested copies of the first two pages, last two pages and every observation page.
  • A copy of the valid Bahrain visa or residence permit.
  • Personal attendance at the application centre.
  • The applicable fee.

You may apply within one year before expiry or within three years after expiry under the ordinary expiry route. The Embassy page says that a passport expired for more than three years needs a sworn affidavit explaining the late renewal. ICAC's own public page uses a different late-renewal window in its general notes, so applicants outside the ordinary window should confirm the current affidavit requirement with ICAC before attending.

Photograph rules

The Embassy asks for a recent 2 inch by 2 inch photo on a white background. Its ICAO photo guide explains framing, lighting, facial expression, background and common rejection examples. ICAC says its photograph service is provided without an additional charge, but you should still know the required appearance before the appointment.

04Book and attend the ICAC appointment

  1. Open the Embassy's ICAC appointment information page or go directly to the ICAC booking page.
  2. Select the passport service and an available date and time.
  3. Enter the applicant details exactly as they appear on the printed Passport Seva form.
  4. Save the appointment confirmation.
  5. Attend at the confirmed time with the applicant, originals, copies and printed form. ICAC says walk-ins are not accommodated.
  6. Pay at the centre. The Embassy's ICAC notice lists cash, debit card, credit card, Benefit and STC Pay as payment options.

05Indian passport renewal fees in Bahrain

The following amounts come from the Embassy's passport fee page and took effect on 1 July 2026. They include the BHD 0.800 Indian Community Welfare Fund fee. Add the ICAC service charge of BHD 0.180 and any bank charge.

For a fresh 36-page passport for a child aged 0 to 8, the Embassy lists BHD 30.800. That lower amount is for a fresh passport and is not the minor reissue fee.

The Embassy states that fees are not refunded when an application is withdrawn or refused. It also lists form filling, photocopying, photography and courier service at ICAC without an additional charge.

06Processing time and tracking

The Embassy publishes a firm service target only for an eligible Tatkaal case: the passport should be issued within three working days from submission when the Tatkaal fee and specified documents have been accepted. The April 2026 Tatkaal notice confirms that the service resumed in Bahrain.

The official pages do not publish one guaranteed normal-processing time. The Embassy or other government authorities may require additional checks, police verification or corrected documents. Do not buy a ticket based on an unofficial promise of a fixed delivery date.

  1. Use the ICAC tracking page with the reference provided at submission.
  2. Check Passport Seva status if ICAC directs you to the government tracker.
  3. Respond quickly to a document or police-verification request.
  4. Collect the passport during ICAC working hours when the status confirms it is ready. The Embassy notice says no appointment is needed for collection.

Once ICAC accepts a reissue application, the Embassy says the old passport will be cancelled and cannot be used for travel. Plan around that loss of travel-document availability.

07Special cases that need extra documents

Minor passport renewal

The Embassy issues a minor passport for five years or until the child turns 18, whichever is earlier. Applicants aged 15 to 18 may choose a ten-year passport by paying the adult fee. The checklist includes the signed application, Annexure D or the appropriate Annexure C route, original passport, valid Bahrain visa or RP, copies of the child's passport and both parents' passports and residence permits. At least one parent's passport should show the spouse's name. A ten-year passport also requires the Class 10 marksheet or the stated equivalency document.

Lost or stolen passport

Use the lost-passport reissue route, not ordinary expiry. The Embassy lists a Bahrain police or CID loss report with an authorized English legal translation, the latest NPRA immigration report confirming the last use of the passport, a sponsor letter with English translation if needed, Annexure F, an affidavit of non-acquisition of foreign nationality, the passport copies available to you, valid Bahrain residence proof and personal attendance. Tatkaal is not available for a lost or stolen passport.

Damaged passport

Take the damaged original, passport copies, valid Bahrain residence proof, Annexure F, the application and photograph. A damaged-passport case is also excluded from Tatkaal under the Embassy's current list.

ECR removal or ECNR eligibility

The Embassy describes deletion of ECR status as a change of passport particulars. Its current Bahrain checklist accepts a Class 10 marksheet issued by CBSE or a state board, or clearance from the eMigrate portal with more than three years of stay abroad. Use the dedicated ICAC ECR-removal service page for the correct appointment category.

Name or spouse-name change

Do not submit a plain expiry application while changing a name. The Embassy separates marriage, divorce, widowhood and remarriage cases from other name changes. Depending on the case, it lists updated Indian IDs, an affidavit, registered marriage certificate, divorce order, spouse death certificate and newspaper notices. Name changes and changes to father, mother or spouse names are excluded from Tatkaal.

Address change

Select change of particulars in Passport Seva and provide the latest address proof. Enter both the Indian address used for passport and police-verification purposes and the current Bahrain address carefully. A mismatch between the form and proof is likely to trigger a correction request.

08Tatkaal eligibility before you pay

Tatkaal is not simply a faster fee option. The Embassy says documents are checked physically and the passport record is checked in the system. It excludes cases including:

  • No clear police-verification report in the system for the old passport.
  • Lost, stolen or damaged passport.
  • Name, sex, appearance, signature, date of birth, place of birth, parent-name or spouse-name change.
  • Renewal of a short-validity passport.
  • Minors whose parents are divorced or separated.
  • Applicants deported on a passport or Emergency Certificate.
  • Specified adverse-record, repeated-loss or false-passport cases.

An adult Tatkaal applicant must bring any two acceptable documents from the Embassy's list in addition to the ordinary reissue documents. Examples include Aadhaar, EPIC, PAN, an eligible driving licence, bank or post-office passbook, student photo ID, birth certificate, eligible government or public-sector service ID, pension document, category certificate, arms licence or ration card. A minor needs one acceptable document from the shorter list published by the Embassy.

09Common rejection and delay reasons

ProblemFix before the appointment
Application reason does not match the caseUse the correct reissue reason for expiry, lost, damaged, exhausted pages or change of particulars.
Passport number, name or dates differCopy the details from the current passport and support every requested correction.
Photo fails the standardFollow the Embassy's ICAO guide or use the ICAC photo service.
Unreadable uploadRescan the full document in the requested format. Do not crop seals, page edges or signatures.
Missing original or observation pageBring the original passport, any additional booklet and copies of all required observation pages.
No valid Bahrain residence proofTake the current visa or residence-permit copy and confirm that the applicant is ordinarily resident in Bahrain.
Tatkaal selected for an excluded changeSwitch to the normal route before paying or confirm eligibility with ICAC.
Minor consent documents incompleteUse Annexure D or the correct Annexure C situation and take both parents' identity and residence documents.
Walk-in without appointmentBook at icacbh.com and attend on the confirmed date and time.

ICAC says incomplete applications are not accepted. Review the service-specific checklist, because an ordinary renewal, ECR removal, lost passport and minor reissue do not use identical supporting records.

10After the new passport arrives

A new passport does not automatically update every Bahrain record. Keep the cancelled old passport because it can contain the linked Bahrain residence history and valid visas. Then update the new passport details with the relevant Bahrain authority or employer process.

11Indian passport renewal Bahrain FAQs

How can I renew my Indian passport in Bahrain?

Register or sign in on Global Passport Seva, complete and print the reissue application, book an ICAC appointment at Bahrain Mall, attend with the originals and copies, pay the correct fee, then track the application. Applications are submitted to ICAC, not through a Bahrain government passport-renewal service.

How much is the passport renewal fee in Bahrain?

From 1 July 2026, an adult ten-year reissue costs BHD 47.100 for 36 pages or BHD 65.600 for 60 pages under normal processing. Tatkaal costs BHD 93.300 or BHD 111.800. Add the BHD 0.180 ICAC service charge and any bank charge.

How much will it cost to renew a passport from July 1, 2026?

The amount depends on age, booklet size, validity and normal versus Tatkaal. Use the fee table in this guide and the Embassy fee page. Do not apply the adult 36-page amount to a minor or a lost-passport replacement.

What documents are required for Indian passport renewal?

For an ordinary adult reissue, take the printed signed form, one recent 2 inch by 2 inch white-background photo, original passport and any additional booklet, self-attested copies of the first two and last two pages and observation pages, valid Bahrain visa or RP copy, appointment confirmation and fee. A change, lost passport, damage, ECR removal or minor application needs extra records.

Can I renew my passport before it expires?

Yes. The Embassy's ordinary expiry route accepts a reissue application within one year before expiry. You may also reissue earlier when visa pages are exhausted or insufficient, or when a supported change of particulars is required.

Is police verification required?

It depends on the application's facts and government checks. The official Bahrain pages do not promise that every renewal avoids police verification. Tatkaal is unavailable when the system does not contain a clear police-verification report for the old passport. If an Indian police authority contacts you, respond with the requested address evidence promptly.

How long does Indian passport renewal take in Bahrain?

The Embassy publishes three working days for an accepted eligible Tatkaal application. It does not publish one guaranteed normal-processing time. Police verification, document corrections and special cases can extend the process.

Can I walk into ICAC without an appointment?

No for application submission. ICAC says applicants must attend on the date and time in the appointment letter and that walk-ins are not accommodated. The Embassy notice says collection of completed documents does not require an appointment.
