Bahrain Birth Certificate Name Correction: Court and iGA Steps

By Gaurav Agarwal · Updated 12 October 2026

Get a civil court ruling through a civil case (the Ministry of Justice’s Court Cases Services cover civil cases, in Arabic only), then open an execution file in Execution Services to request the electronic execution letter; iGA lists both as conditions. Wait 45 days after the ruling, with no appeal or cassation, then apply to iGA.

01Understand the two court documents before starting

iGA’s service condition names two separate records: a civil ruling for issuing the corrected birth certificate and an electronic execution letter from the Court of Execution.

The public service page does not say that a letter from an employer, school, embassy or hospital replaces either court document. Prepare for a court stage, an execution stage and then the iGA correction stage.

02Start with Bahrain Courts and Cases Services

The official Courts and Cases portal covers civil, Sharia and criminal cases and states that the services are available only in Arabic.

The public birth-correction page does not identify the exact civil claim label to choose for a child-name amendment. Before paying, confirm the correct case type and parties through the Ministry of Justice service or a licensed lawyer. Do not copy an unofficial case label from a forum.

  1. Open Courts and Cases Services.
  2. Open Court Cases Services, which cover civil, Sharia and criminal cases and are available only in Arabic.
  3. Prepare the current birth certificate, identity documents and the evidence supporting the correct name. The exact court filing list is not published on the birth-correction page.
  4. Save the case number and every court notice.
  5. When the court issues its decision, obtain the judicial ruling required by iGA.

03Use Execution Services after the ruling

Execution Services cover opening an execution file, submitting requests and paying the due amounts. Use them to request the electronic execution letter once the ruling is issued.

The public pages reviewed do not publish a button specifically named for a child-name correction letter, so confirm the request inside the execution file rather than guessing.

  1. Open Execution Services after the ruling is available.
  2. Open an execution file and keep the file number.
  3. Confirm inside the execution file which request produces the electronic execution letter required by iGA.
  4. Save the electronic letter and the judicial ruling as separate files.
  5. Check that the child’s and parents’ names match the court record before moving to iGA.

04Prepare the iGA birth-certificate correction file

The attachment list includes the birth certificate, enforcement order if any or judicial judgment, father’s and mother’s ID card or passport, applicant’s ID card, the designated birth-certificate form and other relevant documents.

Bring the original birth certificate. The online route still leads to personal attendance with paper documents and the original certificate.

Bring the original birth certificates, or a police report if the originals are lost.

05Submit online or at Civil Affairs, then attend in person

Wait until 45 days have passed since the ruling was issued, with no appeal or cassation.

For the physical route, the iGA services page says to book a front-office appointment through the Mawaeed app. The service page says to attend the Civil Affairs Unit in person and submit a copy of the judicial judgment and relevant documents (if any).

For the online route, log in, enter the details and attach the necessary documents. The Legal Affairs team processes the request and communicates by email, then requires personal attendance with the paper documents and original birth certificate.

iGA lists a process time of 1 - 3 Working Days. The iGA page also says the applicant is notified by SMS or phone once the court order is executed, and lists certificate delivery by mail as 2 business days.

The iGA birth-and-death services page lists a fee of 1 BD for changing names following a court order.

  1. Wait 45 days after the ruling with no appeal or cassation.
  2. Choose the online service, or book the front-office appointment through Mawaeed.
  3. Attach the necessary documents if using the online route.
  4. Watch the email address used in the request for the Legal Affairs message.
  5. Attend with the paper documents and original certificate when instructed.
  6. Pay the 1 BD fee listed by iGA, and any fee requested at completion.
  7. Wait for the iGA notification by SMS or phone, then use the available issuance or delivery route.

06Ask iGA to align the child’s CPR record after correction

The official court-order service describes changing the birth certificate. It does not state that the physical CPR card is automatically replaced. After receiving the amended certificate, ask iGA which ID-card update or replacement service applies to the child’s record.

Carry the amended certificate, the court documents and the child’s existing ID information. Do not submit a second birth-certificate correction when the remaining task is an ID-card update.

07Update a Bahrain passport only after the birth certificate

For a Bahrain passport name, surname or birth-date amendment, NPRA lists the execution letter, judicial ruling, a certificate showing no appeal or discrimination, the original passport and the amended birth certificate.

For the iGA correction stage, 45 days must have passed since the ruling was issued with no appeal or cassation. The passport service likewise says to submit after 45 days from the judicial ruling, lists 10 BD for a normal passport and publishes 10 working days.

08What the official pages do not say

The reviewed public pages do not name the precise civil lawsuit category for a child-name amendment, publish a court filing fee, promise a court timeline or explain whether every CPR record updates automatically. Confirm these points through the responsible court and iGA rather than using estimates from social posts.

Keep names and dates exactly consistent across the ruling, execution letter, birth certificate request and any later passport or ID-card application.

09FAQs

Can iGA correct a child’s birth certificate without a court order?

The service covered here is expressly based on a court order and requires a civil ruling plus an electronic execution letter.

How do I get the execution letter?

After the ruling, use Bahrain Execution Services, which includes opening execution files and submitting requests. Confirm the correct request in the execution file because the public page does not name a child-specific button.

How long does the iGA correction take?

iGA lists a process time of 1 - 3 Working Days.

Do I still need to attend if I apply online?

Yes. The process says Legal Affairs will ask for personal attendance with paper documents and the original birth certificate.

What documents does iGA list?

The list includes the birth certificate, judgment or enforcement order, parents’ IDs or passports, applicant ID and designated form.

Will the CPR update automatically?

The public birth-certificate correction page does not promise automatic card replacement. Ask iGA which ID-card service applies after the amended certificate is issued.

What if the child has a Bahrain passport?

NPRA’s judicial-amendment service requires the court records, no-appeal certificate, original passport and amended birth certificate.

Do I wait 45 days before going to iGA?

Yes. For the court-order service, iGA says 45 days must have passed since the ruling was issued, with no appeal or cassation.
